Oil for HO swap

    Oil for HO swap

    The wagon has had the HO swap, gt40 heads and mass air conversion, also a mild cam. Whats the suggested oil weight/type for that, I know lo pos are not picky but depends on if they have the knock or not.

    What about the HO?

    10w30 is what i use

    1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt
    2006 Lincoln Town Car Signature. Stock for now
    1989 Ford F-250 4x4 much much more to come, sefi converted so far.
    1986 Toyota pickup with LSC wheels and 225/60/16 tires.
    2008 Hyundai Elantra future Revcon toad
    1987 TriBurner and 1986 Alaska stokers keeping me warm. (and some pesky oil heat)

    please be patient, rebuilding an empire!

      Thats what I was thinking. Esp since its a little cooler out now.

        i only run 10w40 if the summer is really brutal or i am going to go to the south in the summer

          10w30/40 if it's a stock bottom end. If it's a different bottom end, use the recommended for what it came out of. I think 93+ uses 5w20 or 5w30.

            The stock oil is fine. If it was freshly rebuilt with no miles on the bottom end you can run 5w30 but 10w30 otherwise.

              so 10 30 is the stock recommend oil?

                Yup, except in really cold climates, then 5W-30 is speced.
                1990 MGM: $50 E7 heads, HO cam, Holley SysteMAX lower intake, HO upper intake with an Explorer TB. LSC ECM. Lincoln logs into stock dual exhaust. K&N drop in air filter. Wide ratio AOD, 2400 converter with a 3.08 one tire fire out back. Car is less slow now. Then there's the '92 Beater. Dual 2.25" exhaust with shiny tips. Rumbles nice. Super slow. Burns oil too.

                  I have run 5w30 in my car. It makes good oil pressure at hot idle even in the summer, so it works. You can run thinner oil than specified, but only if the motor is tight enough to get by with it. If you're at 5 psi at idle, its a bad idea. I idle somewhere around 20-25 psi with 5w30 in the middle of summer. That motor has maybe 40k on it though, and thats probably a high estimate.

                  Never tried it on the Mark VII. Ton of miles and no pressure gauge.

                    Been running 5W20/30 in my three cars here without issues. I'm getting 'dealer specials" on the Motorcraft Semi-synthetic and my feeling is that is all they carry as it is what is used on the newer cars.

                      heh... my 88 runs at ~25psi oil pressure in the middle of summer using 10w40. Beater gonna beat.

                        I dont think my oil pressure gauge works, so Ill have to get that working.

                          I run 10w30 in all of my vehicles. I know the Vic could run on 5w30. But I just don't see a point in changing it when 10w30 is readily available to me.

                              Yea, the others work, but they dont light up at night, like they should, the oil pressure stays the same all the time, but since the others work, I am guessing its just that one.
