    Just a thought

Okay so ill start off by saying this is my first post on this forum, but i recently purchased a 1988 Grand Marquis. I have access to an almost brand new ihi turbo and manifold off of an 88 turbo coupe. My question was does anyone know if the 2.3 manifold would mount up and if not what route would you recommend going as far as a manifold was concerned. I was thinking about maybe doing some sort of mid/rear mount but don't know much about that type of setup.

    /edit
I noticed on the IAC there was some "performance fuel module" or something spliced into its wiring, anyone have any clue what that is? I've been around 5.0s all my life and have never heard of any such thing.

    First, welcome to GMN.

Second, I am not a turbo expert but did do a little research back in the day because junkyard turbo power was an interesting topic! The 2.3 manifold won't work for you. The IHI is a small turbo. Remember it was designed for a 2.3L - or in that ballpark of displacement - and Iirc was designed to spool quickly with a trade off in maximum boost. In the 5.0 you've got roughy twice the air coming out, and will spin the turbo roughly twice as fast. So it'll spool very quickly, and probably blow apart or melt by the time you hit 5000rpm. If you wanted to run two of them, it's plausible but certainly not ideal.

http://racinginnovationandsupply.com...aders-302.html Cheap headers for the twins - I think the IHI uses a t3 flange. There's much more to a turbo system than just hanging them on and plumbing them - which is why I decided against it. With the two IHI turbos tuned right I'd guess you'd be close to 300 horse, but the torque would likely be in the low to Mid 400 range. Keep it a low rpm stump puller.

If I were going to do it today, I'd buy a kit for a fox and adapt it to our cars.

The performance fuel module seems like one of those eBay "chips" that promise 50hp for $19. I'd get that off ASAP! I would like to see how it's hooked up just out of curiousity.

I'm aware of all the ihi stuff, me and my dad have had multiple turbo coupes and yea those little fuckers spool realllly fast, and they max at about 18psi over that your just blowing hot air, it was just an idea because i saw some old parts floating around the garage after a t3 swap on the current turbo coupe, my real plans for the car are to eventually build a decent 331 and beef up the aod alittle for it and weight reduction, and then maybe a power adder in the very distant future, they literally just spliced it into the iac wiring, someone got ripped off big time lmao. I'll try and snap a pic of it from my phone. Well im about to head out to the garage and do an oil change and start looking at what im gonna rip out to save some weight.

WONT BOLT UP and you would need 2 turbos from a 2.3 pinto motor for a 302 should do on a 331 also best to have the water cooled hsgs.

Turbos are awesome but are a ton of plumbing. I'm a plumber and really want nothing to do with it, lol. Yeah that little turbo might give you a little grunt down low but otherwise wouldn't cut it. My plan is to later swap to an HO accessory setup to take advantage of all the inexpensive fox mustang supercharger setups floating around. Otherwise, finding one of the old Incon or DDMI twin-turbo kits would be radical.

Fox Mustang kits can be had on flea bay for 1000 to 1500 for dual turbo set ups. The std KIT turbos are junk THE REST OF THE PARTS ARE GOOD, but if you have a pair of Mercur or tbird turbos it can be done. bIG ISSUE IS THE PANTHER PLASTIC INNER FENDER WELLS they would become melted in no time. Now the 77 tbid I HAVE HAS METAL INNER FENDERS and a bit more room.

Speaking of fox mustang turbos, EricTheCarGuy will be slamming a cheap chinaman ON3 turbo in his 302 Fairmont. You could wait for his videos to come out to see how he did it to help make your install easier.

I kinda want to hear about ETCG's turbo blowing up. You'd think that guy would know better.
