    Plug Readings and Recommendations

I’m a little disappointed with the e3 plugs. I had 3 of them crack. One cracked about 3 months when I was working around the dip stick. Two more sheared completely off when pulling them out today. The FrankinMerc is running rich and I wanted to read the plugs.

When pulling off the wires most of them came out with little effort. After looking at the plugs, I believe I may have only been running on 3 cylinders. Here are some pics, what do you guys think?

I plan to install yellow ACCEL Super Stock cut to fit wires. And make sure they are on good!

Now, about the plugs. I don’t want to go back to e3s. Maybe I’m rougher on parts than when I was younger or the newer stuff are just weaker parts. I never had 3 Autolite plugs break on me before.

The cam/heads are from an 88 Mustang GT HO setup. What plugs do you guys recommend?

What coil are you using? Stock may not be quite hot enough. I like platinum plugs , with a slightly hotter coil. If they are still dark after a nice loooong run, then go up a heat range.

It's a OEM type, but only about 6 months old. I had a MSD coil on it, thought it might be bad and got this new one. Of course now I can't find where in the garage I put the MSD coil!

Which is better ACCEL or MSD coils?

ACCEL seems to have better QC than MSD these days.

+1 Those plugs look like crap. I'd stick with normal plugs. We all know they work.

Stock boring Motorcraft plugs. ASF42C I believe is the number, or there is some other shorter more convenient number it cross references to. Ask for plugs for an 88 Mustang and you'll get them.

            UPDATE:

I went with Motorcraft SP502. Installed them along with ACCEL wires and an ACCEL coil. Running smooth smooth now. I think I may of had more than plugs and wires problems. Take a look at the OEM coil I bought about 6 months ago. I'm surprised the engine even ran at all!
