    Steering box...

Well, I FINNALLY got the steering box put in my box.... my 91 that is! Now I have to learn to drive all over again... Since:
    1. It doesn't drift all over the road anymore
    B. If I even think about turning the wheel... it turns...
    3. No more moving the wheel from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock just to adjust for road differences... (Like the seam in the middle of the road)
    C. But most of all... The steering is tight again!!! WOO HOO!!!!
(A little humor from "Home Alone" there)

It took three times to get the right steering box,
    1. the first one of them had two flat sides on the shaft, Wrong one...
    2. the second one had the one flat side on the shaft, which mine had, so that is what we ordered... when it came in.. Wrong one... Someone put the wrong damn unit in the box... it had a round shaft with splines all the way around it.
    3. finnally the right one... went in like a champ...

Good to hear, I just finished rebuilding mine myself. Was pretty simple and only cost $60 for the rebuild kit. Getting rid of the slop is done with that adjuster nut on the top of the box. You can actually tighten the gears while it's installed in the car.

Yes, I know mine was adjusted about two years ago... no more adjustment left... Oh well, it is right now! Tom...

That meshload adjustment is only good for so much fine tuning. Once it gets to a certain point the only fix is to replace the guts. New steering parts sure are nice. I need to do a steering box on my S10 soon too. It uses the old GM Saginaw box thats apparently cake to rebuild, but mine has the crappy turn ratio so I want to replace it with the sport model box. 12:1 ratio vs 15:1.
