    Big brakes junkyard run

So today I grabbed the dual piston calipers/rotor/like new pads/bracket off of a 98 marquis. I have to go back and get the spindle/hub. Does anyone know what size that lower control arm bolt is? I know its bigger than 22mm. Any tips these big bolts are beeeotches to get off without air tools.

OH NO!!!! YOU broke one of the “unsaid” forum commandments! You are gona make some of the more sensitive members on this site mad. (The ones that are more internet geeks instead of car guys.) You asked a question that could have been answered via "STICKIE." Most others wont bug you, they will just answer you. However, some will expect you to sift through stickies or archives instead of helping you develop a fun thread to chat about. PM me if they give you crap. I just did my BBS with the help of the more mature forum members. We'll exchange some good information instead of reading through pages and pages of boring stickies. Thank you for your thread. Its fun to read, WRITE, and INTERACT about car stuff isn’t it.

you don't need the lower control arm for the swap, so I assume you are talking about the nut on the lower ball joint that holds the spindle on.

I am pretty sure its smaller than 1", so if 22mm didnt work, then it should be 24mm or 15/16" ... a large box end wrench should work nicely. give it a few hits with a hammer if you have to.

I've been on this board for about 4 years, peeps know me pretty well, I think... Man grandmarq rocks compared to the flaming one would get on the Z31.net forums lol. And I did look through the stickies but found nothing on bolt/nut sizes for anywhere in the front suspension. And my real question was how do people compensate for not having air tools while working in the salvage yard, but I guess a big freaking hammer will work most of the time.

Oh and thanks Eric, rock on!

went to the local pull a part on wednesday... front section was filled with C4C cars. Lots of 98-2002 panther chassis cars, all with big brakes. even a 2001 GSP car was there.

not many Box body panthers though

don't know the size for sure, but 15/16 sounds accurate. I usually just take the whole large socket set with me and wing it from there.

As for the calipers, I hope they were low mileage or replaced. If they're old, its possible they aren't any good.

+2.......i try to help everyone that i can.......but i feel like a broken record sometime......gotta realize that i work 12-16 hrs a day and spend quite a bit of time here helping folks....not to mention helping folks on the mk7 club........until you can figure out how to clone me, you gotta be friggin patient people.........be glad i even put this info out there........back in 04 when i was working on converting my towny to big brakes, i got a shitload of responses from the people on the other site stating that i would fail and i was wasting my time.......i could have just kept this information to myself.....i didnt get much help.....i'm not the brightest bulb on the tree but i figured it out.......i do try to make a living doing this stuff.......and yes it does get a bit frustrating when people ask me for prices and i give them an honest price and i spend a few hours making an estimate, when all the wanted is to get information out of me.......the information is posted.......yes the search feature does suck, but all you have to do is spend some time looking up threads.......trust me most questions have been answered.......if some of you dont change your tudes, i'm gonna clamp up like a vise......dont bother me none, i can practicallly do this stuff in my sleep........btw this is not directed at you brian......your question was a valid one.

i'm not trying to be a prick, but look what myself and a good number of my friends that you are whining about have done in the name of gmn......fuck i'm not rich......i work my fucking ass off and i can barely keep afloat......the roof is dripping everywhere right now as i type........the panther parts i am trying to preserve for the future are getting ruined in parts of the building......if you are close enough to me, dont think of just what i can do for you, come and help me fix this fucking roof in your spare time.......if i fail, gmn fails......just think about it for a minute and quit it with the bullshit comments please!

Scott, and Tom, I'm pretty sure his comment was directed at me, and I have just this to say in reply: I see you can't stand true to your word. Take it as you may...

Brian,on your question - I take a set of 6-point 1/2"-drive sockets with me, along with a matching breaker bar and sometimes a 2-foot cheater pipe. Usually works out pretty good, but sometimes things slip off and the tail bone hurts for days... Nature of the job, I guess

Here's a tip for everybody here. If you used the advanced search feature and tell it to search thread contents as well as titles, it doesn't suck nearly so bad.
