      it shouldn't do that but the more critical play is side to side. Rock the steering wheel and see if the tie rod moves before it pulls the spindle along with it. I'm betting it does, which means its done.

        It's junk.

        Assume all other joints are as well (the 3 other rod ends and all 4 ball joints, as well as the idler and pitman arms) until you know otherwise.

            The tie rod also has side to side play, but I didnt get it in the video while up on the lift. The mechanic was being a douchegrip. 2 months ago I slammed a crater in the ground caused by a construction company and began to have a knock in the right front. I thought it screwed up the rf shock. After inspection the only thing we could find was the bad tie rod and a junk pitman arm. I have to send that video in to their insurance company and theyre hopefully gonna cover the tie rod.

                    When you by tie rods, do you buy just the ends, or the hole kitten kaboddle?

                    I was going to get four of this

                    ACDELCO Part # 45A0210 {#88910044}
                    ROD,STRG LNKG OTR TIE -

                    and for the U-joint I was going to get this

                    MOOG/PRECISION Part # 354 Premium
                    At Transmission; w/3-7/8" O.D. Yoke; w/Towing Option; w/1-1/16" O.D. Bearings
                    At Rear Axle; w/3-7/8" O.D. Yoke; w/Towing Option; w/1-1/16" O.D. Bearings

                    (((((But I noticed two sizes for U-joints for the same car. What gives?

                      depends on what's bad for the tie rods... typically it's just the end joint.

                      U joints have two options... the larger is for tow-package cars usually (or police/performance). Most civilian cars have the smaller one. Always best to know which one you need before purchasing by measuring.

                        Ok, I gotcha, so measure the diameter of the U-joint>

                            Normally just the ends are bad, but if the sleeve is old, it may not let go easily. I've replaced mine for that reason. Sleeve is typically about 20 bucks, so if you have to replace both ends, it doesn't really make sense to me to fight with the rusty sleeve.

                              I see, interesting. How would you diagnose a bad tie rod?
