Prolly just gonna skip the 12" and go right for the 13"cobra stuff, whenever I get the money for it. After installing a big brake kit on my friends import, it looks insanely easy to do an upgrade, especially since there are so many stock apps we can steal from. The protege I did the BBK on used RX7 rotors and wilwood calipers and a simple flat bracket and some spacers. VERY simple to fabricate.

That's where I was planning on sourcing the rotors from. I'll have to pick one up and se if it will fit the hub, and see how the offset on the hat/rotor is.
From what I've been reading, the cobras use dual 42mm pistons. I measured the pistons on the vic calipers and from where I measured, they are 47mm! So, What I wil probably do is use a bigger rotor and the stock caliper with some good pads.
Edit: Rotor offset is about an inch difference (vic one sits way back). Should still be able to use the cobra rotors so far, with what I have seen. I will have to order one and see how it fits. Luckily, since we already run the 1" spacer, that creates more clearance between the caliper and the wheel. From the guessing I've done so far, it could still work.

We put the 13" cobra brakes on my brothers T-bird. The calipers might work, but the rotors wont. The rotor offset is way different. better off trying to run a two-piece rotor and find a brake hat with the proper offset.http://secondhandracing.com/Home.aspx

Could probably do those rotors on an 03+ Vic without a whole lot of BS. They have the same or close to same offset probably.
Sounds like the disc brake kit you did on the import was like the one I used on my Super Beetle. The old drum backing plate was removed, a very simple bracket that I could have made myself with a chopsaw and a welder to attach the caliper, and a rotor/hub off a Karmann Ghia. Much easier than changing out the whole spindle assembly and whatnot for the standard beetle.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

really? 03 Vic brakes are 13"? Interesting. Very interesting. I knew they did some rear brake upgrades for the 03+ models. Rotors are about the same size, but they're now vented instead of solid. Stands to reason there would be a front brake upgrade as well.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Im not talking about wheel offset, im talking about how far the face of the rotor is offset from the braking surface.
The braking surface is only about 1/2" behind the face of the rotor on the Cobra and the surface of the Vic rotor is more than 2" from the face. No spacer is going to work.http://secondhandracing.com/Home.aspx

I was talking rotor offset also. I know that they are a less, but don't have any measurements. Also, the 98+ brakes seem to have less offset than the old school stuff too, again, I have no measurements though. I need to go to the store and check some stuff out.

If you were to use a cobra rotor, youre right you would have to have a wheel with more brake clearance.
i forgot, but we made a brake bracket for the Thunderbird. it is a piece of 1/4" steel plate. it is cut to fit on an 8.8 axle end. uses two section of thick steel tubing as spacers for a Varga caliper. It uses a Corvette ZR-1 rotor, MN-12 Thunderbird Varga caliper, 1/4" Phenolic spacer for the pad. all on a Fox T-bird.http://secondhandracing.com/Home.aspx

Looked into the 2 piece rotors on wilwoods site, looks like it'd be easy to go that way. They have a 2" offest hat that would work fine and can bolt rotors up to 16" onto them....14" rotors would be nice...and some 18x10" wheels all around.. And keep everything on the body of the car STOCK....redo the chassis completely and put a real motor in it....
