Yeah I got a chance to check it all out this afternoon and it appears the line going into the "coffee can" (which I replaced) had gotten a tad loose on the OEM thin line. I removed the connector and ran the thicker line directly into the reservoir. Also replaced the can with the aftermarket one just for good measure. Will test it sometime later this week (hopefully)! Haven't gotten a chance to test the old can, for leaks, but hope to do that soon as well. As usual, lately, health issues are getting in the way!

There isn't anything magic about the coffee can, it just needs to be a vacuum reservoir. Anything will do, the later ones are plastic, its the part where the relays sit. I'd probably go that route instead of the stock metal can if looks aren't a priority. Plastic will never rust like the steel does. Wander the junkyard and grab something from whatever you find.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Thought I'd dig this thread up and continue the discussion with some findings on R-134a phase out.
As I read it, the AIM act is an active phase down (not phase out) of many refrigerants, including R-134a, also known as HFC-134a. This includes use and production. 2020-23 has been a 10% reduction. Next year, that jumps to 40% decrease. Since it is not a phase out, I think it will be available into the foreseeable future at this point, but the cost will certainly climb, probably significantly as we get into next year.

shame you can't just buy a 30lb cylinder but that needs the license now. Not a big deal to get, just have to do it. Stores more efficiently than a bunch of cans.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

I got a case of R-134a from Sam's Club. I used three cans this year doing A/C work. Hopefully that trend doesn't continue or I need to stock some more. I own four vehicles with that stuff and two others that might get it if I drop the hydrocarbon fills in them now.1990 Country Squire - under restoration

Oh BTW.................last week when the temps in metro NYC were in the 80's I had the Avanti on the road, three yrs ago I replaced the compressor and r/d. Still running R-12. Anyway I am more than happy to report that after three years she is still holding her charge.........in stop and go traffic the air out of the vents is between 35-40 degrees, depending on when the comp cuts in and out. I adjusted the curb idle to 1k RPM to compensate when the car comes to a stop at traffic lights, she then drops to just about 650-700 RPM, which is the normal spec from the factory. They did have a speed up device on the car back in the day............but they never were very good a PITA to adjust.........I removed it long ago.
