    1990 won't start

the engine isn't turning over. replaced the starter solenoid and it fired up, now it just makes noise from the fender solenoid and the engine won't spin or turn when i turn the key. tried jumping it to no avail. i'm leaning towards the starter itself, but the car also needed that i move the gear lever in and out of park for me to start it the last time. so i'm wondering if something else is wrong with it. i'm going to replace the starter tonight, is there anything else i need to consider here? thanks

The solenoid chatters? check the battery connections. Might also want to try whacking the starter with a hammer if all the connections check out. If it starts after beating on it, replace the starter.

what it does when i try to crank it, key in on position, nothing happens with the exception of the brake/parking brake light coming on on the dash until i let off the key. car is in park and brake is not set.

Sounds like bad connections. All of the idiot lights are supposed to come on immediately after turning the key to on. Its a bulb prove-out routine. They usually go out after a couple seconds. You should also be seeing the red engine light, the yellow check engine light, and the amp or battery lamp, depending which yours has.

bad connections......if it's got the later model starter which is a 50/50 shot, i'll bed its a bad connection at the starter at the solenoid switched wire

:bump: What was the outcome on this? One of my junkers seems to need a new neutral safety switch as well. I do have a couple of "spares", but I've never seen one out of a transmission. What's the easiest way to test them?
