As some of you know, I recently acquired a set of original police water temp, oil pres, and volt gauges from Scott. But I do not have senders for them (all I asked for was gauges lol). I've searched online and couldn't find much (unless I am completely blind). Where can I find senders for these? I want to put them in whenever we thaw out, so I do have some time. Or if anyone has some that work I would be willing to buy them.

Are they electrical? Im not sure if just any electrical sender will work for those gauges, but I know sunpro as well as most other aftermarket gauge companies sell them.

You can find senders to use on those gauges, you just gotta know what the resistance values of those gauges are. What I mean is, the sender is going to be a variable resistor of sorts what will change in regards to pressure for the oil pressure gauge, and temperature for the coolant temp gauge. Basically, at this resistance, the gauge is supposed to read x degrees, at this resistance the gauge should read x psi. Is there a brand name of the gauges anywhere? For the volt gauge you should be able to just hook up a feed of 12 volts and you'd be good to go.

Once upon a time I had the whole gauge set-up out of an '89. Gauges, bezel (which I sold to Dave), gauges, harness, and senders. I used part of the oil pressure sender on my '88 P72 (the tube), and lost the sender itself. As far as the water temp sensor goes, I believe it is the same as the factory sender for the idiot light. It looks the same, but the resistance may be different.
I have the harness, but that is pretty much useless, as its easier to run new wires then to route and tie in the original harness. Each gauge needs an illumination source (take it from the radio), a switched 12V source (can also be taken from the radio), a ground, and the sender source.

Actually, I removed my factory gauges, senders, and complete gauge harness from my '85 in favor of newer digital ones. Whenever the over 9000 feet of snow melts and I can get into my garage I can dig them out. I never threw any of that stuff away, nor did I sell it, so if you need something I most likely have it.
Also, does anyone happen to know the brand of the "oem" police gauges? I'm pretty sure they weren't made by Ford themselves...sigpic

I know right where the oil sender is, have to look for the water one. The gauges are all by themselves under the ashtray atill, and the harness is with all the other wiring, neatly piled onto the old engine.sigpic

am I correct in assuming that I don't need anything special (a sender like the temp and psi) to get the voltmeter in my new gauge cluster working? Just tap into some key on 12v?sigpic
