Ready for the swap to from 2g to 3G alternator.... Some questions first...

Since I am more mechanical than electrical I need to simplify this, ok so I have the stock setup please look at the pics....

I will be going to an auto parts store tomorrow... I will just buy a new alternator, so I've decided based on what I've read here that I will get the small one that will fit the existing assembly. The 95 amp I assume.... What model car should I tell them I want the alternator for, cheapest.... Now I need an exact list of what to get and ask for.... I'm only one block from an advance auto parts.so if I have to make multiple trips it's ok... ...
Now I looked at my car I see the harness on top and the harness on the side they all are fed into a line to that coupling plug... But there is a single wire that plugs into somewhere on the engine.. I'll get a pic of that soon.... Walk me through this guys, as I have no one to help me out here at home and like I said I'm not the best with electrical....

Here's the wire I was talking about looks like its brown or possibly yellow with a stripe... Looks to go down under the engine then back somewhere....... What tis is be and what is it for? And what do I Dow with it?

Personally, I would tell them to get you an alt for a '98 or so Mustang with a 3.8. It's clocked almost the same as the stock 2G. and make sure you get the 130 amp flavor. 65mm or smaller pulley should allow you to use your old belt.

Your results may vary with the belt.

Could that be the wire for the oil light sender? Kinda hard to tell from that pic.
1990 MGM: $50 E7 heads, HO cam, Holley SysteMAX lower intake, HO upper intake with an Explorer TB. LSC ECM. Lincoln logs into stock dual exhaust. K&N drop in air filter. Wide ratio AOD, 2400 converter with a 3.08 one tire fire out back. Car is less slow now. Then there's the '92 Beater. Dual 2.25" exhaust with shiny tips. Rumbles nice. Super slow. Burns oil too.

yeah, oil pressure switch wire... no touchy, not part of the alternator.

+1 get the 130A version. YOU WILL NEED PARTS NOT GENERALLY AVAILABLE AT LOCAL PARTS STORES.

        http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...mall-Parts-Kit

you will also need the charge cable.

and the cable boot is nice to have too: http://www.delcity.net/store/3:8!in-...ulators/p_1033

Yeah most the stuff you need. Minus the alternator are all parts that they won't carry. The junkyard is your best friend for this swap. I just ripped everything from a mustang for like $20.

In Philly? You must be joking, there are several. Jimmies on Wheatsheaf lane comes to mind, although they aren't a pull your own.

I'll clarify the junkyard availability...... My wife has made the junkyards not available to me...... In other words if I don't put a new part in there she'll bitch and bitch and bitch......so it's worth the extra couple bucks to just go to the auto parts store.....

The alt I found in the junkyard is two years old and still had the stickers on it. I'd say it had been on the car a couple months tops.

Just because it's in the yard doesn't mean it's old and worn out.

Yeah but his wife insists on new parts so they are either new or they are not. If you'd like to sleep on the couch for him - cool!! LOL!!!

                      Ha!

I was just throwing it out there.

If his wife says new parts, then dammit, it will have new parts. It's for his own good.

Yeah if new parts are a must I guess you could buy new alternator, new alternator wiring connectors, a couple of feet of (10guage?) wire, megafuse, fuse holder, and some ring terminals and other terminals too. Pretty pricey though.

Tell them 1995 Mustang GT. 130 AMP. Why go with a 95 amp? 4 Guage wire from the main alternator lug to a minimum 100 amp circuit breaker, then to the battery. The same black plug and small gray prong plug that went into your 2g alternator plug right into the 3g. Last thing is the "tickler" wire that senses battery voltage needs to be clipped from the black plug LEAVING YOURSELF ENOUGH WIRE at the plug to connect it to the 4g main lug wire. I did this by crimping the tickler wire with the 4g wire. I added a quick disconnect so I can seperate the tickler from the main 4g wire. ALL DONE.

you can make a charge cable from 2 battery cables and a megafuse (175A) and just order the fuse holder to put in the middle: http://www.delcity.net/store/MEGA-Fuse-Holder/p_795652

no parts stores around here carry megafuse holders. You might be able to find them at car audio places though.
