LED vs H1/H4 headlight upgrade

    200mm is the big rectangle lamp, always used in a single-pair setup from the factory (I'd imagine mostly cause how much real estate they take up on the header panel), so yes, it's lo-hi combined setup, like the outboard headlights on a panther, but larger.

          But if your light just throws a ball of light down the road without a good cutoff, you'll still be blinding people even with proper aim.

            Obviously.

            The euro spec ones are fine and, when aimed right, are just underneath people's side mirrors when I pull up to them at lights. I've not been flashed either.the slight uptick on the right side of the light pattern is perfect to where it does not cause the light the hit mirrors.

              That defeats the purpose of doing an upgrade. The whole point is to improve what came with the vehicle. In this case where we've got old 70s-80s spec lamps, we've come far enough that eve the H4 is outdated but is better than the DOT standards of yesteryear.

                I don't feel that the new ones are better, so not an upgrade and therefore not worth doing IMO. If you can't make it better, do not spend money to make it worse. It also pisses me off greatly that I have a hard time driving at night because of other people's "upgraded" lights that just blind me.

                  It's only an upgrade if the person doing it can make better use of the new thing than they did of the old. Some people's eyes simply process the DOT-spec light pattern better. If that's what someone is most comfortable with, then that's what they should be using, and switching to a lamp that produces a pattern that's better for 90% of the population but not the 10% they fall into will not only NOT constitute an upgrade but actually make it less safe for them to drive after dark.

                  It's like people telling me I should to "upgrade" my trucks to newer models cause they're more comfortable and make power and get shit done faster - yeah thanks but no thanks, $4k budget rebuilds my engine top to bottom every 300k miles, new shit needs $4k worth of injectors alone even at mere 30k miles sometimes - some upgrade that is alright, I'll just pass and keep my old and slow vehicles, I run on island time these days anyways. Older technology may not be better for most, but it's better for some, so run what you're most comfortable with and whatever makes sense in your particular case.
