      Here is the short version.

First I took them off and scrubbed the heck out of the tires, and rims with mean green and brillo pads then let them dry.

Since there was already a ridge on the tire about where I wanted the white to stop I used it as a guide to mask off the tire. Some of that thin flexible masking tape would probably be easiest, but for my purposes a roll of the regular blue stuff torn into little 1/2" pieces worked just fine. Then I masked off the rim by running the tape around the outer edge and tucking it in with a razor blade.

I sprayed the rim one color and the tire another. Simple as that.

green scruffy pads FTW! i use em on the bus mirrors all the time before repainitgn them

yup, they are good stuff if you get the good ones. (i.e. not the ones you get in packs of 10 for $1 )

I need to get my air compressor fixed/replaced so I can use my 90deg die grinder with the little scrubby discks you can get for those. They don't last long but they will take paint off right down to the metal in a heart beat.

                  pics of wide whites

I don't know if this is a dulicate post because my computer wouldn't post the original pics. So here are my painted wide whites for the CV. I used the same methods that GoodSamaritan used on his mower tires and it worked quite well. These were supposed to be winter tires, but they might make it on the car before summer's end because the potholes that formed after winter and spring aren't getting fixed in NJ. My mom also has a habit of hitting the largest of potholes and one of the AR wheels is already bent. Perhaps boXman can do this to his 88 CV and make it an official neo-rat rod. Enjoy the pics!!!!

The stock tires have been painted for over a year now. The mix of gloss white and flat white paint actually held up on the rear tires, but they seem to retain a lot of dirt and are currently a light brown. The front tires have retained their color, but they are cracking and flaking off. I am considering power spraying the old paint off since it started cracking.

If I can find bumper paint in white, I would consider using that because I think it would hold up better and not retain so much dirt.

Did you happen to take any more pictures? Or just the two you posted back when? Like an overall shot of the car with the wides?

There is a small pic towards the bottom of the page that shows the CV on the wide whites. Unfortunately a couple days later the front tires began cracking and the rear tires started collecting dirt.

Post pics of your car in here, works in progress, etc... Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles only.
