I really like that look, the cowl hood that's got a lifted center section so it looks stock. The only big expense I see is the chrome molding on the rear edge of the hood.

So I am thinking of using counter sunk rivets for the hood scoop. My question is, will steel rivets crack a fiber glass hood scoop? I may back the rivets up with a copious amount of epoxy.

The aluminum ones should work well. Fiberglass is actually some tough crap, but the malleability of the aluminum should help keep cracking out of the equation.

I cut the hole for the hood scoop last Thursday evening whilst waiting for the snow to do its thing. I got a bunch of Home Depot panel bracing and lined the perimeter of the hole that I cut. I doubled it up where the old bracing was. It touches what's left of the old bracing; so I am thinking of welding the two together. Hopefully that will stiffen the hood back up sufficiently. I'll get some pics of it soon.

Did you do some measuring?
I have a tall dual plane intake on the big block, a stroker clearance oil pan and the air cleaner nut only comes out past the top of the hood.
You might be surprised that it fits!!!sigpic

That would be ideal. Hard enough for my mom to look over the dash as it is without obstructions (hood scoop).
I measured the hood a half dozen times using different methods. All methods had one measurement in common; which is a point from the rear of the hood to the front and back of the intake. I couldn't think of any other way. They were all within a 1/2" of each other. So I extended the hole a 1/2" on all sides. The six pack hood scoop easily clears the hole with a lot of room to spare. I just have to find a space to weld the bracing. I will wait until the engine is mounted in the bay before installing the scoop. I have to see if I got the hole in the right spot; or if I need the hood at all. I haven't welded in ages; and my father doesn't weld in the yard anymore on account of jerky neighbors. This is part of the engine swap that has stumbled me for the past year.
