Did some more work, finished putting the bottom end back together. New rear main, new oil pump, cleaned out the stock pick up tube, everything is torqued down and ready to go!

Tore the heads apart and started cleaning them up.

Got the oil pressure and temp gauges mounted too.

        Soon...

Did you put the oil pump driveshaft in there? I only ask because I forgot that once and had to take the oil pan back off to put it in.

It's in there pretty tight, but I put a bead of RTV around in it too. Obviously put the printed circuit back on, although I had to leave out the Amp light, Belt light and low fuel light (Although there was never a low fuel light cutout anyways).

Quick question, does the 3g also fall victim to not charging if the Amp light is not installed?

                    Yes it does.
Hook up the green wire of the 3g to a 12 volt switched power source. With key in run.

yep, if it doesn't get +12v to the I terminal it won't charge. Interestingly, at least the old external types only need it to start the alternator off. A friend of mine has a Ranger with a 302, and the I terminal on the regulator feeds from the I terminal on the starter relay. its only hot while cranking, but its enough to kick the alternator into charge mode.

Updates, and other things I haven't mentioned. Cleaned all the carbon off the valves, pistons and heads, they look pretty good. Lapped the valves, they came out great! Seats are perfect, intake valves are pure sex with tons of margin left, exhaust valves had some pitting, but nothing out of the ordinary for a 150k engine, they cleaned up pretty damn good. Got the heads on and the ARP head bolts all torqued down.

Couldn't get a good pic, but the crosshatching on the cylinders literally looks straight off the factory floor.

                              Crappy pics of the heads:

Degreeing the cam, it's 1.5* advanced, AKA perfect.

Almost all together and ready for paint:
