NOS taillights, new voltage regulator/brushes and high beam light going in tonight. I'm taking the '85 to the grand opening of the Lincoln Museum on the grounds of the Gilmore in Hickory Corners, MI near Kalamazoo on Friday evening. Roughly 700 miles round trip. I'll be staying there until Sunday. I wonder what the border officers will think of the bug screen...

As of 11pm last night:
New voltage regulator/brushes: check
New high beam lamp: check
NOS taillights installed: check
Fluid levels: check
Bug screen ready to install: check (car doesn't fit comfortably in garage with screen installed)
8 hours left at the office until departure: check
All lights were flickering at warm idle, replaced regulator/brush assembly = good as new.
Fast (cold) idle:
Warm idle with headlights on:
I debated the H1/H4 conversion for this car but I'm going to stick with originality. My '87s will get the modern treatment, along with relays.
Talk about being designed to generate labor for dealerships...bumper filler and reflector/backup lights must be removed to R&R taillights. All because they couldn't add 3 cutouts in the rear sheetmetal to access taillight housing screws.
There was just a bit of "shelf dust" left on the taillights.

Ah, this makes me want to get working on my '87 again. Just haven't had much time to mess with it. I need to have the rear bumper filler painted. It's chipping and has the ugly yellow urethane starting to show through.Nick

I'm sure you will take a look at Mike's thread when you work on your bumper filler, as he went through a bunch of trial and error in the prep stage to get things "just right" for paint.Last edited by RyPow; 08-08-2014, 09:44 AM.RyPow

I gotta see this bug screen that makes the car not fit in the garage. Every bug screen I've ever seen attached to the hood.

Probably effective but not aesthetically pleasing. Is the "bug issue" that bad there that this is required??

A Sunday drive in the '85
The weather was great yesterday (for mid-October) and I couldn't say no to a good countryside tour in the '85. Found a nice dead-end road to stop and snap a few glamour shots amongst some of the biggest pumpkin patches I've ever seen. Put a good 60+ miles behind us from Guelph through the Credit River valley near Belfountain, ON to the outskirts of Brampton and back through the Georgetown and Milton areas north of the 401. Lots of great winding roads and scenery.

Trim that tailpipe, sticking out like that isn't a clean look. Also delete the muffler for "moar power!" I did that on mine, not loud at all, nice mild rumble.88 Town Car (wrecked, for sale)

Chop up that nice shiny exhaust? No way. It's single exhaust, but it's so nice.
I had to wipe the drool off the keyboard, btw.1990 MGM: $50 E7 heads, HO cam, Holley SysteMAX lower intake, HO upper intake with an Explorer TB. LSC ECM. Lincoln logs into stock dual exhaust. K&N drop in air filter. Wide ratio AOD, 2400 converter with a 3.08 one tire fire out back. Car is less slow now. Then there's the '92 Beater. Dual 2.25" exhaust with shiny tips. Rumbles nice. Super slow. Burns oil too.
