    Nick's 1987 Town Car

Thought that I would start an official build and progress thread on my newly acquired 1987 Town Car. The car is turning into more work than I thought it was going to be, but that usually ends up being the case with almost every car that acquire. No one ever said I do this to make money, though!

Here's a link to my original post:

    http://www.grandmarq.net/vb/showthre...y-from-Indiana

So, what I have done so far:

Removed the factory bodyside protection moldings (I think the car looks much cleaner without them). Along with this, I will need to have the car detailed and polished since it is somewhat evident where the moldings used to be. It was a bitch to get these things off. They were stuck on there REAL GEWD!

Sent out of my glove box door to Tim Nill for him to fix the delamination. Apparently he uses some aluminum channel (to retain correct shape) with high strength epoxy and clamps it for a few days until the epoxy has dried and then removes the channel.

Replaced the hood struts, which were shot. Not surprising, as usually all of these are in bad shape.

Completely cleaned the interior seats, carpets and headliner

Added factory auto dimming mirror (one of the few options the car did not come with)

Hand washed and flushed underside of any salty shit that the car was covered in when it arrived

Replaced the TV bushing with the upgraded Ford brass bushing. $27.91 later from the dealer....

    Replaced driver side valve cover

Detailed part of the engine bay

More to come.....I will post photos too....

Having fun so far with this car.
    Nick

Cool man. Nice work. My car started out as a daily driver...now it just gets 100 dolla bills thrown at it every week. Basically it has become a HUGE project car.

I know what you mean about project car. I bought this car as a low mileage garage queen and it still eats through my cash. Oh well, it's hard to quantify the enjoyment factor in dollars spent!

That sounds like a nice project you got there.

That's the way it seems to be with these cars. I never meant to do anything more than maintenance on my mom's CV. Now it's a major project. pfft....whatever.

Well, had some time to monkey around with the car a couple of days ago and did a little troubleshooting on my rear air adjustable suspension. I followed the troubleshooting procedure in the EVTM and determined that my ride height sensor is no good. It is feeding whacky voltage numbers back to the controller module in the trunk. I know the relay and compressor is working per the troubleshooting procedure. Anyone have one of these height sensors sitting around or know where I can obtain one? Not sure if these were available on the GM or CV of that era. I don't think 90+ sensors are the same either, unfortunately, because those are all over. Part has been supposedly discontinued through Ford (not surprising).

Check out ROCKAUTO to see if they stock them.

Already checked. Unfortunately, no go there. I am thinking I may get down there and see if the inside of the connector is all corroded. Hard to believe that it would be as the underside of this car looks like new.

A Mark VII rear sensor may be the same. The same company, Tokicko, made both systems.

Unfortunately, none of the aftermarket companies have anything to do with the box model systems. They focus solely on the full blown air spring systems of the 90+ Town Cars as far as Lincoln's go. I am going to check out my sensor connection and see if I can figure out what's going on. As a last resort, I am going to call LincolnLand. I really hope I don't have to do that though, because I'll have to take out a second mortgage to buy one from them.

Well, been doing a lot of work on this best the past couple of weeks. I'll have to post up some photos. Quick question for the gurus here....I am trying to make my car show ready and I was wanting to know what the correct factory hose clamps would have looked like for the radiator hoses. I don't think there's an authenticity manual available that would show these kinds of details. I currenctly have ugly looking worm clamps and I thought I remember seeing something different used. Anyone know what I need? Rypow?

If you want anything NOS (original), You have to surf e-bay. The clamps used to be a wire style, that had a bolt and nut built in. Hard to find I believe. I may be wrong.
