I had the AC belt jump backwards a bit due to a bent tensioner, chewed a bit through the clutch connector. I've got a new tensioner that has little guide edges on the pulley, haven't had any issues with the belt moving without a smog pump. Does need to be quite tight to not squeal.
The old compressor had the clutch connector right on the clutch, but the new one I have has a bit of wire between the clutch and connector. Old one was a reman Ford unit and the new one is a GPD chinesium.

The previous owner of mine ripped out all the ac and smog components so all of it was new. Even with a new tensioner with the raised edges like yours it still jumped. The only thing I can think of is that I had to route the top belt under the tensioner. Even with the belt tight it would still jump and would jump over the raised edge.

87GrandMarq That's a bummer, mine looks just the same, routed under and such.
Mine jumped the belt a couple times, but it stopped completely after I got a new tensioner. The plate of the tensioner was bent on mine, so the pulley was a bit crooked.
Could your ac brackets be somehow misaligned? All it needs is an extra washer somewhere or something a bit bent.

It’s definitely possible. I found other pics where the belt is bent forward from the crank pulley. Perhaps the compressor needs to be moved slightly back. The car is sitting right now at my parents house but it does need a full ac rebuild as it leaked all the refrigerant.

The smog pump does add some support to the brackets. The really long bolt that goes through the pump and spacer into the engine block helps keep things from moving. Ideally if the pump is removed it ought to have a new spacer made to replace that. A piece of pipe of the right length would get it done.

When I had my 85 Ltd, I tried using one of the Ford Performance smog pump delete pullies. Needless to say, it did not fit. Maybe with a little redneck ingenuity it would though but I don’t remember exactly why it wouldn’t work.

Fox brackets are different but without actually studying the two I couldn't tell you how the pump mounting actually differs. Same pump though.

I don;'t think that delete pulley will add the mechanical support back though. I think they just bolt to the brackets without the tie back to the block.

I wish I would’ve taken pictures. It didn’t line up with the other pullies for sure but there was some other issue like I couldn’t get the bracket to line up with the smog pump bracket.

Offset may be different. The Fox pulley runs roughly where the middle of the two Panther belts sit. I have never actually compared the Fox smog pump pulley to the Panther one. I would have expected the brackets to set the alignment but maybe not
