Uhm, hello, it already has the cruise controls - see those three silver buttons on the two lower spokes?
Oh...Damn...
Whoops. :morons:
Everyone's entitled to one mistake in their life.
So...This being the case...It gives me hope! Now I just need to find a gray one and boXman gives us a write up for installing the wheel in later boxes.
Yah that is the newer mount. T-Birds must have changed earlier.
FatNasty, you are right in that the two center trims will swap over without issues. I've had my '82 Plastic Woodgrain in my '87 steering wheel, and vise versa.
But on the Boxes up to 1984 from what I've see use a splined shaft and a nut to hold the steering wheel on. After that, they use a bolt and the setup shown above in Dave's Pic. That steering wheel should work for you boXman.

I've NEVER seen a box with a splined steering shaft. My '83's got the same mount as any other box/t-bird/mustang of the '80s, only it uses a nut instead of a bolt. I've had both an '88 vic wheel and an '89 mustang wheel in my car.
