    Seat Belts

I've had this problem with my seatbelts since I bought my car and even our 88 Town Car had it.
The seatbelt doesn't want to retract...WTF?
but here's what's wierd...when you open the door, it retracts right away...
this is especially true on the passenger side...the seatbelt will get stuck and not retract at all, then you open the door and it retracts right away...wierd.
    any way to fix this?
it doesn't bother me too much at all...but if it's a quick fix, why not?

    thanks for any input, guys.

I have gotten into the retract mecenisum and oiled them a bit. Also have found the belt twisted in the guede pates. Spraying the belts with 100% silicone spray helps.

The front belt retractors are under the plastic pannels between the doors. The silicone can be sprayed right on the seat belt webbing. Just pulll the belt all the way out and soak them with spray. Checkk around the guide at the top and spray some there. Some of the belts cut slots in the pllastic on the guides and plastic pannels.

so, just pull the belt all the way out and spray right onto the seat belt itself?

Thats the idea. It helps may not solve the issue completely. Reduces a lot of friction. The retracing mechinisum may still be sticky. Oh yea work the belt in and out several times and spray.

So everytime you put on the belts, you end up with the silicone spray all over your clothes??? No thanks.... take the trim piece off, and spray the mechanism at any "pivot" point with some lubriplate... (it is like a fine white grease....) and then work them for a minute or so.. and spray a little more on, then put the trim piece back on....

Used to coat all the rubber seals around the doors trunk plastic parts tires. Untll 303 Protectant came out. Still use either depending on condition sometimes both at seperate intervils

The seatbelts are supposed to function that way. if you notice, there is a button that sticks out below the striker bolt. Thats connected to the retractor mechanism. Its supposed to keep the belts semi slack for comfort.
