Water on the back seat ?? !!

Where does water go from an open Moon roof?

Today it rained very hard. Like an idiot left the factory moon roof 'up' when parked. (Not slid open - but the rear end in the up position).

    Later - noticed:
    - water on back seat
    - headliner wet and dripping - above back seat .. approx where your bum sits.

So I guess it came from the open moon roof. So - I am wondering if some drain is blocked. Can anyone walk me through were that water is SUPPOSED to go?

One more piece of info: There is rust appearing just below the vinyl roof - just at the back of the trunk. I am guessing there is water getting in behind the vinyl ... and until today - had not thought of the moon roof as a cause? Possible??

Is it rusted all the way through? For the moonroof, I'm not sure if they actually have drains, My 83 Rx-7 did but it was also a coupe and the drains went out the vents behind the doors

Rust is superficial mainly - one small spot has rusted through to trunk.

There is a set of drain tubes in the factory moonroof. The tubes come out at the bottom of the A and the C pillar through a hole in the rocker panel. Front one is just behind the front tire, rear one is forward of the rear tire. There's one on both sides front and back. You should be able to see if the drains are clogged by pouring water into the trough area around the edge of the opening. Water should come out from all 4 corners on the car. If it doesn't, have a look in there, probably there is some piece of crud clogging the holes up. Book suggests compressed air to clear it, but I'd try a pick first to dig anything out.

I noticed this tube sticking out of the wheel well in the back. I don't know what it is, I'm sure it's a drain pipe, but for what? BTW it's on the driver's side.

Behind the wheel? My car has one it's where the water drains under the trunk lid.

the tube on the driver's side in the wheel well is the drain for the fuel fill door area.

                Problem solved:

Pulled headliner and found that where one of the rubber rear drain tubes attaches to the metal sun-roof tray - had rusted through. Copious quantities of silicon window sealant fixed that.

The good news: While my (sagging) headliner was 50% pulled, drove to a local trimmer shop and he quoted me only AU$350 (US$320 incl tax) to replace with new! My first quote was approx $2000 so that is why I never had it done.

                All good!

                Thanks for your help.
