I dyed a '63 Galaxie dash pad from blue to red. I went to the paint store and got what they recommended. It was expensive if I remember right, about $70 for the quart (I had other interior trim to dye as well). Had to spray with a paint gun, just like you would paint a car with.

I dyed the rear package shelf in my '82 while it was out for the slicktop conversion. I got some of the rattle-can Duplicolor dye they sell at Advance Auto. It was okay, but the color was way off from the original.

I tried the Duplicolor on a horn pad and as you said the color was way off. The cap on the can was dark brown and the color was more of a tan.

I sugest a carpeted dash pad cover. It might cover most of your cracks. A dark color is adviseable. The big plus is almost no windshield glare. Its like a fog lifting. You will be able to see farther, clearer, avoid more acidents. Fewer headackes driving in glaring sun.

I have one of those on my car. my perfect dash pad started to crack at the speaker grilles, and now its got a split from speaker grille all the way to the rear edge. The fuzzy cover looks better than the cracked up dashpad and I don't have to constantly look for new ones or worry about someone touching mine. My cover is a light grey to match the rest of the interior, and it does glare off the glass during the day. Dark ones might be better.

They also have vinyl paint at pep-boys or a like store, which I have used before, IT probobly wont be the same as you original color but the cap is a perfect match to what you get out of the can. It's just 5 bux if you wanna give that a try before spending anything more...
