windows on a 94 GM ls

ok I know on the older cars there is a gear kit ,, but my drivers side window has stoped working ,, makes a clicking noise ,, had to rise the window by hand and it is staying up.

The window still is up but the motors just clicks

Need to get it fixed as I may be haveing to run to Mass the end of next month

They have cable driven regulators that are prone to failure. I had to take the 95 mercury to the shop to have em replace it as I was afraid of putting the new pop rivets in the glass. I'd pop the door panel off and see what you can find, might be able to lube it and work it up and down. At any rate it sux.

Did you hear any snapping? When our regulators went we heard a loud snap. The window motors in the '94 are similar to the ones in the boxes. If you want to check to see if it is the regulator, remove the door panel and see if anything is loose. If not, it might be the bushings inside of the motor. But p71Towny is right, those regulators are prone to fail.

sounds like the bushings in the motor went bad. They're not hard to replace. And they're cheap too. You'll need a torx stick to remove the screws holding the window motor. You can see them, in the door there will be 3 holes in the shape of a triangle. If you look in the holes you will see gold torx screws. Those are the ones you want to remove. You'll need another person to hold the window in place so it doesn't fall down onto your hands. then once the motor is out, unplug it. And take the cover off. it should be a screw or a smaller torx bit. bushings will be in little pieces. Remove the big gear and clean out all the bushing pieces, once that's done, reinstall the big gear, put in the new bushings, and put the center gear in the middle. Close up the motor, and reinstall it on the regulator. plug the motor in and see if your window works again. This is all assuming that the regulator is alright. You can check that yourself after you pull the door panel. You can save a lot of money if you inspect it yourself.
