back then it was a continental, the town car/coupe was an uplevel trim package, not a separate series

co'rec. If it was a more optioned up model it would be a Town Coupe. Same car pretty much, just trim differences. Thats actually the most base model Lincoln I've ever seen. Manual seats all around, no autolamp or autodim, no tilt steering, etc.

What's the deal on this 89 Town Car? I smell a potential decent rear bumper [/QUOTE]

No the only thing worse than that rear bumper is the bum who is supposed to be paying for it...

IIRC i believe it doesnt even have split 50/50 bench seats in the front i could be wrong though. no cassette player. i thought it being a 2 door it would be well equipped guess they can be very plain though i would buy it if the price was right but i dont need to now since i got me a 2 door lincoln like i wanted in the beginning when i was looking for another 2 door. i kind of struck gold on my find since it was a rare piece of lincoln history being an 82 Mark VI Bill Blass with all the goodies except the tow package. makes my town car feel like crap but i love my lincolns and will not part with them.

The Continental has a power front full bench, power door locks, antenna, and windows. Electronic Radio with no cassette.

Pure speculation but it sounds like a company car for a top salesman or a VP. The kind that gets replaced every couple of years.

And 12 quarts of crankcase fluidz. so that's probably why gas mileage so good :p

NHRA class racers will dump a quart or so before making a record attempt, less drag on the crank, (& the oil pump?)

probably more about windage issues than drag on the pump. With a windage tray, thats not so much a concern but I guess those might not be allowed in certain classes?
