I take it the rest of the state convinced their road crews not to salt the roads? I couldn't even start my car one day because the throttle wouldn't move ... got to crawl underneath and chip salty ice off the TV cable.Last edited by 1987cp; 09-16-2011, 10:01 AM.2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

wow...
Since everyone else is just (rightfully) giving you facepalms,
I'll say you're REALLYYY underestimating the forces that frame undergoes. There's a reason that metal was as thick as it was from the factory. That repair is just not cutting it. You need to completely rebuild what's rotted out, with thick plating, in a way that better mimics the way it was from the factory. Just because you can't break it off with your fingers or a screwdriver does not mean it will even offer resistance to a 4000 pound car hitting a pot hole or, god forbid, another vehicle.
85 4 door 351 Civi Crown Victoria - Summer daily driver, sleeper in the making, and wildly inappropriate autocross machine
160KMs 600cfm holley, shorty headers, 2.5" catted exhaust, 255/295 tires, cop shocks, cop swaybars, underdrive pulley, 2.73L gears.
waiting for install: 3.27's, Poly bushings, boxed rear arms, 2500 stall converter, ported e7's, etc
06 Mazda 3 hatch 2.3L 5AT (winter beater that cost more than my summer car)

What 4000 pound car? This car should be more like 3500-3600 lbs.
Seriously, though, I think in a lot of parts of the country you're lucky to find a frame as good as Matt's is.2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

I dunno. I live in a pretty high-rust area (urban Ontario), and I've never seen one that bad on the road. It sure as heck wouldn't pass inspection. Even if there are other cars out there like that, well, they need repairs too then lol.
