IIRC, the power ratings of the civilian Vics/Marquis remained essentially the same from '01 to present. However, the Police Interceptor model was bumped up to 250HP, starting in '04.

The 04+ P71's got a power boost by using the Marauder airbox and PI zip tube.

BTW in the '05 or '06 model year they switched from a 28 spline to a 30 spline axle rear end
          it is actually 31 spline

There are some differences between years as have been posted above and it can even get more detailed than that...

98 - first years for the whale body and first year for COPS (Coil on Plug)

98 - 00 Have the NPI engine making 200HP in LX\GM and 215 with HPP or PI

99 - 00 PI came with 3:55 gears and most have a MMC driveshaft. The 99 had a better ECM tune and is quicker than the 00

01 - Start of PI engines rated at 220HP LX/GM and 235 HPP/PI. Also the weight of the car was reduced some in 01-02.

03 - Revised suspension and rack and pinion steeing. Also the engines gained a Knock sensor which bumped the HP up to 224HP LX/GM and 239HP HPP/PI

04 - The CVPI got a revised airbox modeled after the marauder and an 80MM MAF which bumped the HP rating for the CVPI to 250HP

05 - got drive by wire technology and started getting 31 spline axles.

For all 4.6L engines from 95-01 you want to see if the composite intake manifold has been replaced for the updated manifold with the aluminum crossover. The full composite intakes are prone to crack at the T-stat housing and where the heater core hose connects at the rear of the intake manifold on the pass side.

There is some additional information you may want to know..

As for mods it really depends on what engine you get (NPI or PI) and how far you are going to go with it.

For a minor bolt on I would go for the 03+ chassis to start then get the bolt on's, UD, P&P plenum, TB, and Marauder airbox w/MAF and a tune. Then depending on what type of driving you do whether mostly city or highway. I would opt for 3:27's or 3:55's with a trac lock. If you really want some getup and go go with 3:73's.

No matter what you do a tune will really wake it up.

What exactly are they doing with a "tune." I'm not a complete dumbass, but am still a dumbass, but what are the specifics to these cars, what exactly are they changing. I see everyone with 4.6's talking about "tunes", but I dont see any specific information. I suppose it must be re-calibrated for the bigger MAF (what size is the stock vs the Marauder one). Some links to some sites that stock all this stuff would be much appreciated, I'm guessing your probably going to have to get the Marauder stuff directly from the Ford stealership (uber spendy)

the stock MAF is 70MM. THe Marauder MAF is 80MM, and a lightning MAF is 90MM.

The 04 PI Zip tube, Maruader MAF and Airbox assembly, throw on a bigger throttle body, a 70mm or 75mm at the most. You will REQUIRE a "tune" in order to use the marauder MAF. The ECm must be reprogrammed with the correct flow calibrations for the car to function properly.

My friends girlfriends brother has a mint Nissan 240SX that he may end up having to sell, He got caught doing 50km/h over, and that falls under the new street racing law, so he may have some serious court fees and fines he will have to take care of if his parents decide not to bail him out, and he will have to sell the car to pay for stuff. I helped put it together/build the engine for it, so I'm kinda hoping it does come up for sale, cause with gas going the way it is, I'm gonna be needing a 4 cyl soon.

However, if this falls through (which I think it will), I'm still looking at a 2000+ Grand Marquis, I dont think I'm gonna be able to drop the 10-13k they want for an '04 though. Let me know what you do with the parts, I have no idea when I will be getting a new car if they dont sell the Nissan, court dates in a couple weeks so I will know if I have a chance to get it or not...
