    Have we already had the conversation why I despise modern Ford (both the company and their products) and will never willingly buy anything new (or even recent) of theirs? Yeah, stunts like that would be one reason...

    But to answer your question, the average mechanic will start removing anything and everything that happens to be in the way of getting reasonable access to the VCs. Depending on their observation skills and experience they may even remove more than what the Ford procedure includes. And there's a good chance the customer will be charged labor for just about every minute of this ordeal...

      I was thinking the other way. Remove half of what was specified and sneak them in and out.

        That assumes the person doing the work knows what's specified. If they don't, they'll go the lego blocks route - remove stuff one at a time till they can get to what they wanna get to. If they can spot a shortcut they'll go for it obviously, but those are not always obvious to someone who hasn't worked on many engine of the same type.
