Putting the Tan Lady back together after changing the heat blend door actuator and I came across this fork looking thingy:

Looks like its supposed to go somewhere, but I didn't see this part when I was taking things apart. It lines up perfectly with the left stud closest to the firewall that holds the steering wheel in place.... is it supposed to be bolted up with that (between the steering wheel bracket and the mounting surface?

Fuck me, it was all going so smoothly too.

goes up on the big f'n nut with too much bolt sticking down through it holding the steering column up. It's a support brace.

      What he said.

I have a picture from my '91 which should be the same as your '97. You can see the brace in the picture in the bottom left:

Where does the other end of that go? Just wondering if its something that can be added in to an earlier car to bolster the dashboard a bit.

It must attach to the frame of the dash since the other end of it does not need to be removed when removing the dash.
How and where it attaches to that frame, I don't recall.

Thanks for the input guys! Did the trick. This forum is the best!

For those asking, it attaches to a hinged bracket under thedrivers side of the dash in the upper corner area. I wish I had taken a pic of it. Not going to now though, just got everything reinstalled. I will next time something breaks though!
