I stand my cranks up in a corner FYI. But I have never heard it about cams I always store them flat.

why would storing them vertical vs horizontal matter? They store inside an engine block horizontally.

Ahhhh I have always heard something about them resting on the counter weights instead of the journals like it is in the engine causeing them to warp. Idk if there is any truth to this, I would think not considering the massive amout of stress a crank can stand up to. But better safe than sorry right?

*shrug*. The rotor shafts in big electric turbines have a turning gear to keep things moving when not in use so the shaft doesn't develop sag from sitting in one spot. I suppose you could apply that to a crankshaft.

If a crankshaft and camshaft can resist the brutal pounding and twisting it takes when operating inside an engine and not have any problems, I don't see how it would warp just by sitting on it's side under it's own weight.

i'll split the difference and let it hang at a 45 degree angle, howsat?

speaking of its weight - it's a lot heavier than i expected it to be. makes sense given the work it needs to perform.
