    Rear control arm problems

    Hey all...so i put new bushings in my rear control arms, got 3 back in, but the 4th lower control arm is being a real b*tch! I just can't get it to fit back into place no matter how i wiggle or push. I greased it up well several times, however it is so tight that it squeezes the grease right off the bushing. Has anyone encountered anything like this and has some advice?

      Compare it to you old ones. Maybe that particular one was messed up somehow some time ago?

      I know mine were hard to get back in but they did eventually go back into place.

        Yeah the others were difficult but this one is seemingly impossible.

        By old ones you mean the other lower control arm? It's possible, it seems like i need to bend the bracket area it sits in to get it in there...

          It's very possible that you may need to spread the bracket just a bit to get the new arm in. I would probably use some crowbar persuasion... possibly rest the crowbar on the bracket and hammer it with a 4# hammer... but that's me. I like to beat things into submission (things, not people).

              yeah, probably the mount on the frame side is a bit smushed in from 30 odd years. A little judicious use of a BFH or similar motivator ought to get it to act right. It will bend itself back when you run the bolt in.

                Yep had to pry the mounts in the frame open wide to get the new control arm bushings in. And used a rubber mallet to install the arms

                  GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! It worked, last arm is in! a 6ft crowbar was my friend this evening. Shooting to get the new rear in this friday *fingers crossed*
