The brass bushing is much more durable and will NOT break down due to engine heat like the plastic ones. That said, I've never seen any break on the shift linkage or at the transmission. The only one that ever really has issues is the one at the throttle.

Which cars came originally with the brass ones again?
My car had a trans rebuild before I bought it. Looks like they found a black rubber bushing. I've been meaning to replace it; but it looks OK, probably new with the trans, and is not as hard (and subject to becoming brittle and cracking) as the original white plastic bushing I found on my sister's 1989.Comment
