HOW does failed tv bushing kill trans?

    The brass bushing is much more durable and will NOT break down due to engine heat like the plastic ones. That said, I've never seen any break on the shift linkage or at the transmission. The only one that ever really has issues is the one at the throttle.

      cool. won't worry about the trans linkage ones, then.
      Dunno how I could install it incorrectly; seemed obvious.

      Which cars came originally with the brass ones again?

      My car had a trans rebuild before I bought it. Looks like they found a black rubber bushing. I've been meaning to replace it; but it looks OK, probably new with the trans, and is not as hard (and subject to becoming brittle and cracking) as the original white plastic bushing I found on my sister's 1989.

        None had the brass bushing from factory (to my knowlege). They all had the plastic bushing that failed.
