    Fatnasty's Mark VII

Went and picked up an 86 mark VII today. $400 from a guy who lives on the air force base near here. Problem with the air suspension so it sags ass a lot, sometimes it inflates if you turn the switch off then on again. Has a busted header panel and grille, and a few small things like door locks, etc. Runs real nice though, dual exhaust sounds cool too. A few parts at the junkyard and a good cleaning and it should be well worth the money. I'l use it for my winter car for now so the merc can stay inside. Pics----

Nice car, it would look sweet all done up. As for the air ride, get rid of your headaches all together and put coils in it. I'm sure a Mustang suspension would bolt right in.

Got the car registered and insured today. Since i got the car home i couldn't figure out how to start it, turn the key and nothing. Turns out i tripped the anti theft thing that wont let you start it. I had noticed that the flashers were on when i got in and out and apparently that is the alarm, along with the horn, which i think has a blown fuse. read on the mark VII club site how to disengage the alarm, put the key in the door or type the door lock code before opening the door. Drove it around some and it certainly has balls. Squeel the tires whenever i want Needs a lot of TLC, but nothing too difficult.

by the way, do panther wheels bolt right on to a mark vii?

Nope, mountain home is about a 450 mile drive from here, other side of the state. I got it at Fairchild AFB, just outside of spokane, WA. 40 minute drive.

for now no. Still haven't decided on long term plans for this car, so right now its just getting everything working as it should. Especially the interior.

The air springs did look like a pretty simple fix. The other main problem i have right now is the passenger door is stuck half closed. Wont open or close. Hopefully i can get teh door panel off and look in there to find the problem. I was coming home from work this morning and i noticed the car was running like shit; missing and jerking around. Also the MPG display was reading 5 or 6 at 45mph under no throttle. I had the defroster on, flipped it off and both problems went away. Flipped it on again and it did the same thing. So i'm assuming there is a problem with teh charging system. Does that sound like the battery, alt, or voltage regulator, or something else?

Probably alternator taking a dump if I had to guess, though it would probably be a good idea to try cleaning the battery connections, starter relay connections, and ground connections before going to that. A voltage check would also be in order with the defrost on.

I'd actually consider a 3g swap if you're up to it and the alt is toast. the stock 100 amp sort of sucks at low rpms. The 3g also would get rid of the stock voltage regulator so one less thing to fuss about. There's an article in the lincolnsonline.com tech archive for a junkyard 3g swap.
