My soloution to a problem I'm sure others have had

I am fairly certain I am not the only one who has been cut open by the razor sharp peeling chrome on the various shafts sticking out of the steering column .

I ordered one of these Dorman knobs from Oreilly for the shifter Click image for larger version

then I swapped out the turn signal stalk and wiper switch to Mark Vii/ Tbird/cougar pieces

Did you have any problems with the Mark VII turn signal switch? I seem to recall trying to fit a Vic switch into a Mark and there was something with one of the contacts being different or something. Or did you just swap the lever and keep the original Towncar switch? I'm only asking because at some point I'd like to rework my ditch light setup, and what I have in mind is probably going to require a Mark VII switch assembly.

I just switched the stalk , but according to BWD (borg warner) the switch is the same for Town Cars and Marks part #DS175

the Crown Vic is a different listing Part #DS130

So best I can tell the switch swap will only work on Town cars , but the lever should swap no matter what

I just peel the crap off and leave the ugly knob alone.

        at least on my 88.

i hate the 1990 and newer switches... had issues on the 1992 and now the 1990 Grand Marq... have to have high beams on in order to use washer fluid sprayers

So does the wiper switch work in all positions? I once switched to a Thunderbird (80 model years or so) switch and it was a no go in my car....

And did you install the shifter knob yet? I am curious how you get it all apart and back together again.

              I remembered to take pics!!!!!!
Dave, the wiper switch works perfectly on all speeds no problem .
I have EVTMs for both my former Mark VII and my Town Car so I checked the terminal location before I even tried to do the swap.
Here is how the shifter knob was done
First I used a cutting wheel on my Dremel

Then you just slide the new knob on and give it a little tap with a block of wood and a hammer

All told, because I use an electric screwdriver, the whole swap of all three pieces took me less than 30 minutes..... and now I wont bleed anymore

I wanted to post one more pic to show that the knob is similar to the stalks with the silver/ chrome bands .

ok, that is fucking sweet. And the plus side? That is going to match perfectly with the steering wheel I want.

Now all we need is a solution for the height adjuster we'll really be in business.

EDIT: although stupid question, where did you find the other two switches? Junkyard?
