Give a man a fish and he will be fed for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will promptly forget that he once did not know, and proceed to call anyone who asks, a n00b and flame them on the boards for being stupid.
As for phpBB3, it probably sucks as bad as prev versions of phpBB. That is how this forum started before we upgraded to vBulletin. vBulletin is the only choice for a REAL professional forum!
phpbb has a history of security problems, and VB has generally been a lot more secure. When I worked for the hosting company, every few months there would be some really nasty phpbb bug that would mass infect sites. VB can do a whole lot on the back end that many other forum softwares just won't do. For those of you who have never been in the admin area of a VB install, the amount of things that can be done in there is kind of scary.

Back when we had phpbb, I found it easier to modify the themes and icons. Overall it was simpler to use, which is probably why it's more susceptible to attacks. I know we had a hell of a time with spamming and every other damn thing.
I did find it hilarious, however, that my 'rep' has dropped 32 points just within the last week....it's not a rep system, it's a Reputation Stock Market!
See? He's saying it's like, the rep system is like the Stock Market, and-and the Stock Market is doing poorly! See? It's dipping ever lower, li-like his REPUTATION!

I think I ruined it.
Nah, that was actually pretty funny.
