Hello everyone! a couple years ago I bought a 1985 Mercury Grand Marquis with CFI 302. It ran beautifully until a few months ago. but now that my inexperience with CFI finally caught up to me I figured I'd this would be the place to look for help. is Forum>Technical>Box Tech>5.0/5.8 Engine-stock the correct place to start a new thread?

Welcome to the forum! Nice profile pic to boot!
Box tech section is a good pick if you've got specific issues to figure out. Other than that, a lot of us have a "reader's rides" thread for our cars, where its easy to consolidate progress and the odd question too.
Generally speaking, CFI is quite susceptible to vacuum leaks and is a very common reason for running a bit rough.

my car starts and it has AC. Yours doesn't start and it has no AC. Seems obvious to me.

Welcome!
Many hate CFI with a passion. I'm indifferent because I have no experience with it.
We have at least a couple people here who can offer some firsthand advice rather than the standard "SEFI or carb swap it" that usually comes with the questions you may have.
Forum>Technical>Box Tech>5.0/5.8 Engine-stock sounds like the best place for your thread to me.Vic

Most people on here who aren't me have at least one non-panther vehicle and discussions regularly happen on those over here: The Dark Side - GrandMarq.NET - Panther Headquarters
Since the F-150 often has much in common with box panthers, and many here own that era F-150, you'll actually get some good advice here on that truck.Vic

The “readers rides” area says “Ford Lincoln Mercury only” while the dark side says “Non FoMoCo” does everything non-panther go in dark side?Originally posted by VicCrownVic View PostMost people on here who aren't me have at least one non-panther vehicle and discussions regularly happen on those over here

All Fomoco stuff under the readers rides section, non-fomoco under the dark side sub category.Originally posted by Old_Ford_Enthusiast View PostThe “readers rides” area says “Ford Lincoln Mercury only” while the dark side says “Non FoMoCo” does everything non-panther go in dark side?
You can see threads like Tiggie's F250 and SeanP's Cougar in the main readers ride section.

I liked CFI for the appearance, as to the untrained eye it looks like your typical garburetor (carburetor) equipped SBF. That's about all I like about it- it was stop-gap technology between primitive and sophisticated EFI. As a result, it's rather archaic compared to SEFI equipped cars that debuted for '86 and lasted through '91. I owned one over ten years ago and parts were hard to come by then. If I had to own another and it gave me problems, I'd convert it to SEFI. Unless of course it was some ultra low mileage, time capsule cream puff of a car.1985 LTD Crown Victoria - SOLD
