    CVN Immigrant here.

    Hey dudes.

I'm coming here from CrownVic.net; Torquelover recommended it.

Having nosed around, I can see why. I've already found a number of threads detailing a lot of what I'd like to do my box, and further still, you guys seem like a great, laid back community with a solid knowledge base.

    Anyway, here's my Panther:

^ That last pic is from before I blacked out the grille.

It's a 91, P74 5.0 car. It's mechanically stock, save for a pair of Cherry Bomb Turbos (hey, I'm cheap and I didn't know better :p), and a disconnected smog pump.

It's sitting on roughly (because the odometer's broken and I haven't gotten around to opening up the instrument cluster again) 385,000 kms. Thankfully, the previous owner of nine years had almost every major component replaced or rebuilt during his ownership, to a point where I think the only thing a mechanic hasn't touched is the alternator.

It runs pretty great, save for a stuck lifter on the #4 cylinder and a generally loud top end, which is really only a minor annoyance; I've heard much worse, I know it's not going to blow itself apart anytime soon. It doesn't bother me anyway because I'm planning an Exploder swap down the line.

She's my first car, and I love her to bits.

I'm calling it a minor annoyance for a few reasons.

I lacked the resources (read: cash, time.... maybe some skill) to overhaul the top end and make it worthwhile. When I first got the car and started realizing what it was, it bothered the everloving snot out of me and I could never be happy with the thing.

But, it's certainly not a bad tick. Unless you're standing outside the car and/or know what to listen for, you won't hear it. The car runs strong, pulls well, and has never let me down, or even hinted at it, while returning decent (not great, but decent) mileage.

I've gotten the opinion of several gearheads and mechanics, all who say something along the lines of "Yep, that's a lifter. But it won't be problem. Maybe try some Seafoam/upper valve lube."

So I learned to let it go, justifying it with a future Exploder swap, so I could enjoy my car again.
