    headers for 99 grand marquis non PI motor

    hi out there I heard that BBK mustang shorty headers will fit does anyone know what the model # is ? do they bolt right up to the cat pipes?
    also. I have a set of PI heads in great shape that I plan on putting on, does anyone out there have any tips on changing them out? one person told me that you do not have to pull the motor. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

    They do not bolt up to the cats.
    You don't have to remove the engine. But it's easier when it's out.
    Don't forget the Anderson took for timing. And all new gaskets.

      What he said ^

      Doing headers alone I wished I pulled the engine, but I only had limited time in the garage.

      I believe its whichever BBK shorty headers go on a 96-04 Mustang will work. 96-99 Mustang longtubes will work with some modification. Either way you will have to modify your cat pipes.

        thanks for the reply Ryan, what is an Anderson tool, does that set up the timing gears when replacing the timing chain and sprockets? can you rent them somewhere? also I found out that my car has a W in the vin, which I assume is for Winsor, I bought romeo heads because they have more meat in the spark plug holes, will I have any issues with these differences? thank you all for your help, this is a great site. ~john c

          W is for W. Easiest way to tell:
          Count the valve cover bolts.
          11 = Romeo
          13 = Windsor
          I'm sure you can rent it. Maybe. I still haven't bought one yet.

            All gasoline powdered panthers (minus Marauder, which i think is X or it could be W. Not sure.) should have a W in the vin regardless of which heads they had.
            Sorry about the separate replies, I'm on my phone, and can only remember so much.....

              Some 4.6L 2V engines may have 8 bolt instead of 6 bolt crankshafts. Romeo plant built engines have 6 bolts, Windsor plant built engines have 8 bolts. Using the 8th digit of your VIN number, VIN character X is for windsor engines, VIN character W is for Romeo engines. Please identify your engine before ordering.

                W on my 93 vin FYI... and we all know that's a npi windsor of suckage. So they must have changed the nomenclature later on.
