    Super newb in AZ

    Hello everyone!

I have a 2001 grand marquis gs with 77000 miles on it. Got it because of the mileage, it had paint (unlike my other car and every other non-garaged car in AZ), it had a heater(have 6 year old daughter) and most importantly I actually fit in it. Im 6`4" and 260lbs and used to drive a Mitsubishi galant! As the title states...I know pretty much nothing about these cars. Panther?! lol clueless on the term. I don't plan to do too many modifications on it, maybe sway bars, exhaust, general maintenance on suspension and maybe try to find some premium factory wheels to replace my steelies. I just want to learn more about them, their cross compatibility/interchangeable with other models parts and which parts.

So I'll be reading around for awhile. Feel free to throw any information my way

    Welcome!
Everyone loves pics here, if you can post some pics.
There's probably a lot more knowledge of the older cars on this site but there are also some very knowledgeable guys here when it comes to the newer stuff like your 2001 whale. I'm more familiar with the older cars, 91 and older (CV, MGM) or the box era cars as we call it.

Panther is Ford's platform that these cars (MGM, CV, TC) are built on.

check the intake to make sure it has the aluminum coolant crossover instead of solid plastic. If it's the solid plastic one, you'll be looking to replace that because it WILL crack eventually.

And welcome to the site... there's LOTS of good info here.

Welcome the to site big fella!! There is a wealth of information on this site and lots of nice folks. I have saved countless hours and dollars by searching some of my "problems" on the forums. It is always an honor to be able to add or contribute to a thread that helps fellow Panther owners. Again WELCOME!

              Howdy!

My 03 is really pretty different from your 01, but there's some similarities.

If you hear a sewing-machine-like rattling sound at startup it's probably the timing chain tensioners. Also, my rear lower control arm bushings were bad and the uppers not far behind. I changed the Watts link when I did the control arms.

Good luck, have fun! Your 6 year old will be one of the last kids to grow up with a 'real' American car
