    New guy in Alabama

Hey guys and gals I joined here to try and learn about the Panthers as a potential buyer. I have always been a Ford guy, but right now am saddled with a Chevy.

My grandparents bought a new Impala, gave my mom their 08, and offered me my mom's 07 instead of trading it in.

It definitely isn't my first choice of a car, but for $800 I couldn't pass it up. It's clean and has 122k. My Ranger I sold was a 99 with 175k. The truck was basic and small so this impala has been a definite upgrade. I like being able to take my kids places without taking my wife's car also.

I figured worst case I could sell the car for more than my old Ranger. Well I came across a guy selling a 2005 CV. His ad says it has 100k, and was assigned to one detective it's whole life. I'm assuming it is a P71, although it has the civilian looking interior and no holes or spotlight.

Out of curiosity I asked if he'd trade for an impala. He was interested so we may meet up and look them over.

I just want to know how these cars typically fare over 100k. I know the engines are good, my biggest concern is the 4r70w. Are they pretty durable? At work I have an e350 van with a 5.4L/4r100. It has 221k miles and other than spitting a few plugs out it has been flawless.

Anyway sorry for being so long, I just like the idea of a V8 and RWD, and getting back in a Ford.

Sounds like a Street Appearance Package car. They're pretty nice from what I've read- you get the performance benefits of a P71 while keeping the civilian CV looks and interior. Also cool how you usually don't have any holes to weld shut and paint over! Less body work means more money to spend on go-fast parts. Can't argue with that.

I don't know much about the 4R70w, save for that the Jmod tends to improve the transmission's lifespan (less slippage = less wear and tear on moving parts). You also get quicker, harder shifts! Win-win.

I'm sure some more knowledgable late model panther owners will chime in here.
