Tailgate weather strip seems to be what it is.
It's listed in related parts of the following link.
        https://www.varsityfordparts.com/aut...-hardware-scat

Also, under the "This Part Fits" section of the following link it seems to only list wagons. Although the '87-'91 LTD Crown Victoria listings don't seem to specify wagon.

          Tailgate weather strip it is.

This link agrees with what my shop manual has listed in the above picture; the part number being 41608. (Aren't Ford part numbers fun?! lol )

That part of the Ford part numbering system actually is pretty cool. Easy to determine year, make, and even model if you know what you're looking at. You don't get that with The General's 8 digit part numbers, you actually have to look up the numbers for that info. Also interesting that the oldest listing on the tascaparts link is '84 (unless I missed something) when the part is clearly '79 as you pointed out.

yeah, its a fairly well thought out numbering system most of the time but the trim sections are pretty messy if you poke through the parts catalog.

I was watching it, but didn't pull the trigger. Hopefully someone here bought it. My electrical tape corners will have to keep on doing their thing.

Best option would been to see if someone could get a weatherstripping company to do some reproduction ones. I've some companies do that if you have a sample of what you need.

Wasnt me. I was tempted though. The fact I do not own a wagon was the deciding factor.

The thing is mint by my standards but I couldn't justify spending sub $400 on it, although that does include shipping.

Probably found it in some dark corner at a local dealership that closed. Polished it up a bit, and BAM! That'll be $400, please.
