which ground wires? the ones on the harness leading up to the engine or the ones coming from the sensor? and heaters? what heaters are you talking about? im asking about the 02 sensors...
Stepping on the brake pedal uses up any engergy that may be stored in the capacitors in the ECM.... consequently, automotobiles use ECMs, NOT CPUs. the ECM might have a CPU in it though, but its still an ECM = Engine Control Module.

the 02 sensors need to be heated for proper operation, as such they have heaters built into them (notice the 3 wires). the heaters have grounds, which need to be connected for the heater circuit to work. heater ground for the drivers side sensor is mounted to the rear intake stud on the drivers side. ground on the passenger side is a bolt in the rear of the passenger side head.

obviously the wires should be routed away from the hot exhaust pipe or manifold to keep them from burning.

Lol, true, didn't see that But what I do see pretty clearly is my gas gauge needle move when I go pedal-to-the-metal, then again this is exactly the same time where the 33s light up and after them finally hooking up most of the boxes here even at WOT will be watching just tail lights disappearing ahead Naturally I've done everything humanly possible to delay the moment of secondaries cracking open, no way in hell I want them dumping gas when I'm just cruising around...

Yah, my EFI box that used to get steady 15-17mpg city and 22-24 freeway with 250lbs constant weight in the trunk, now gets about 10-12 city and well under 20 freeway with the sand bags removed

We do right about 1.0 mpg in a boat with twin 350 Chevys pushing 10,000 lbs at 3600 rpm. If you get worse fuel economy than that, you have problems.

I don't remember the milage our twins got, but it was pretty damn easy to burn 180 gallons tootling around the bay. And that boat was 17000lbs

well i tried it, disconnected the neg. batt. cable and stepped on the brake pedal. held it for a while and connected it back up. drove it around and it seemed to have worked but now same problem is happening. i can actually see the gas needle move when i punch it.
whats the next solution? check the ground connections or studs where it meets the chasis?
friend at checkers said to change the spark plugs and wires, and he'll exchange the o2 sensors for me for free so i can have all that new. and that can be the problem, i doubt it though. what do you guys think?

See if you can get the engine scanned for trouble codes. At the very least it will point you in the right direction before you just start buying parts.

Get the code scanned, also the coolant and air temp sensors are common culprits for poor milage. Also check the vacuum to the map sensor.

update: since i last posted on here, ive filled my tank on a sunday and it lasts me all week until next saturday. so just about 6 days for 1 full tank. i guess thats a bit better than before when i didnt have any o2 sensors but i was definately expecting more of an increase in mileage/gallon.

off topic: finally getting the 9mm ford racing wires(dont know if blue or black though). $52 bucks on ebay, havent decided wat spark plugs to get yet, dont even wanna touch the distributor again after all the problems it gave me before, and planning on working on the a/c compressor clutches. bitch makes some awful ruckus when i turn on the a/c. idle goes down when the clutches activates but they dont stay on. so i gotta figure out if i can do it myself or take it somewhere.

Could do a R134 conversion yourself, for the most part.

Plain old autolite copper plugs are good and inexpensive.

that's what I figured...I couldnt figure out why you would step on the brake...
I guess you could also turn on the headlights

yea, I've been running without O2 sensors and cats or any EGR for..umm...shortly after I got the car..so about 2-2.5 years.
my buddy Bob always bitches at me...thinking that the O2 sensors being back in would make some HUGE difference...pfft!
I get anywhere from 15-17mpg in the city and about 21-22 on the hwy(I have 3.55 gears) and the engine light hardly ever comes on...so, meh, no big deal to me.
if I was just doing an HO convo I would have kept the O2 sensors in..but since I'm ditching the Comp and going to Carb...no use for them.
