I thought the T-Bird Had the HO? Their is a cheap one near the house. Never bothered to take a close look, but I thought the 91 etc had the 5.0 HO and the 94 had the 4.6?

Well I supposed I can look that up to.
As I said before fabrication and install of the SC will not be an issue. I even think the motor would live for a while under boost, worse case I could drop the boost to the 4-5 range.
Regardless of boost levels. Ultimately I do agree that getting a HO motor would be better than waiting and having to fix a blown motor. If I get a spare motor, I can change the head gaskets and all that before I put it in the GM.
HAHAHA If it was easier I would just get the 3.8 SC motor and swap that in!
I Will see what kind of deals I can find on motors.
If anyone has a lead on something in and around the space coast or central Florida, let me know I am going to be checking the mustang forums and all that.
Also if anyone has the link to the topic on putting the bigger speedo in the GM, please post it or PM me.

I've seen rebuilt mustang blocks going for $200-$300 around here often enough. I sometimes wonder why I haven't bought one yet. I'd rather not build a motor from the ground up for the first time and have it blow up on me cuz I didn't check the clearance on the 2nd to last crankshaft bearing to within .001" heheh. Wish I could watch someone build a motor. Anywho I've seen 302 blocks bored out, with new pistons/rings and bearings installed. All you need to add is the heads/cam/intake and possibly the oil pump and pan.1989 Lincoln Town Car - "Anabelle" - Original block, .030 over with SpeedPro pistons, rods fitted with ARP hardware, FRPP +volume oil pump, GT-40 3bar heads, Crane 1.72 rockers, 89' Fox cam, 93' Cobra lower intake, Explorer upper and 65mm TB, 93' Lightning EGR spacer, K&N intake kit from a 4.0L Ranger, 19lb/hr injectors w/ 87 Mark VII ECM, cat/smog deletes, Big Brake conversion, 3.55 K-Code Trac-Lok/Disc brake rear axle, CVPI LCA's w/1" sway bar in rear, wagon front sway bar, BBK 2.5" off-road H-Pipe, Flowmaster super 40s, HPP wheels, 3G alternator w/LMR.com wiring kit, gear reduction starter conversion, Best 1/4 time: 16.0 @ 85mph.

If you do an HO swap, basically what you're going to do with accessories is put all the stock Crown Vic stuff on the HO. Water pump on the HO needs to be replaced with the Vic pump, maybe the timing cover too but thats honestly about it. Its only a marginal amount more work than doing a straight lopo swap. It would however give you the better pistons that will hold up to the boost.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Well after a long discussion and thought here are the Plans:
Stage 0- Listen to more Ben Harper & Jimmy Buffet
- Work as much as possible to build up $$$ reserves (helps with upcoming Baby and car)
When I am not working hahaha- Build Supercharger assembly Mounts, Tubes, etc
- Sort out Fuel & Timing via FMU and related bits
- Test Supercharger in Daily Driver configuration - as in no beating on motor and car @ 4-5 PSI.
Stage 1- Install HO bits that I have - (Intake, TB, EGR + My own Spacer that I made - accepts propane and nitrous injection setup*)
- Locate, Purchase, Install Cam & HO ECU(will need ECU for motor swap or Ho conversion)
- Run Supercharger in Daily Driver configuration - as in no beating on motor and car @ 4-5 PSI.
When I have enough Cash:- Spend such cash on motor (what doesn't get spent on Baby)
- Swap Accessories and related bits to Explorer motor so that it matches Lopo configuration
- Install Supercharger Run @ 4-5 PSI then @ 8 PSI or so on new Motor
So thats about it. I think I am seriously going to do the Supercharger install (when I can make the time to do the mounts) without the HO parts. Yes thats without anything on the car. Bone Stock.
Then take it some place for a dyno run on an otherwise bone stock motor.
Then another dyno run again on Half -@ssed Conversion - HO plus exhaust. (may or may not include heads).
So thats the plan... Now the thing is - when I do the swap - or prior to the swap, well its all about total budget. The thing that irritates me the most - well I can probably work the motor swap into the total budget of $2008.00 or whats left of it and even some suspension mods. I just don't see myself fitting in any mods to the new motor. Or the trans... which could be a problem.
I also need to find a LSD Differential and better gears.
If I am lucky - I have only 800.00 total spent out of the budget so far - based on cost of car and supercharger - relative value compared to used supercharger cost. I am claiming SC has a value of 500.00 based on what I see used units going for.
Remember for the GRM Challenge everything has to be calculated at street value even if its a donation, etc. I can of course recoup $$$ for anything I sell that came off the car - but thats not an option - nothing on the car to sell that I don't need or want to keep. Maybe the LOPO pieces when I do the conversion - but can't count on much from that.
That leaves 1200.00
Why run the unit on the car as is? - simple creates a base line and I believe that most any OEM motor can usually handle 4-5 PSI, including the Lopo. Keep ing in mind of course that any weak points on the motor before boost, become fail points. So the motor needs to be in good or better shape before boost. Pistons and Head Gaskets being critical areas. The pistons and rings should be able to handle the occasional burst of boost and speed.
Not like I will be running at 5 PSI at max rpm 24/7. More like during acceleration, rest of the time, motor should just be breathing and acting like a larger motor do to forced induction.
So the addition of the SC should also improve gas mileage - mildly, based on improved volumetric efficiency(and no lead foot).
I mean lets face it a Centrifugal unit makes max boost at its given rpm for that boost level, below that rpm it produces less boost. So if it makes 5 PSI at say 5k engine rpm how often is the car going to be at 5k driving it around town.
I also believe that that forged would be better. Still I want to see what can be done with just bone stock.
Finally if the GRM decides the value of the SC is more than I am claiming - well I will have to deduct the additional amount from the budget.Last edited by 91GSC; 09-22-2007, 11:20 AM.

Blown GM
I noticed that nothing was mentioned about the rest of the drivetrain. That stock AOD trans will last about 2min. in boost without some work.
The biggest advantage of a centrifugal is it is only in boost at upper rpm levels. 4 or 5psi will add 100+hp in boost, and with care, that engine should last a while.
With overall co$t a concern, here is some ideas.
Find a used intercooler from a powerstroke or GN, also a used Explorer intake that flows better and comes standard with a 65mm tb. Good used ones can be found in the $200 range, complete.
Mount the SC in place of the smog pump, mount the intercooler right behind the grill, plumb it to the tb on the driver's side. Moving the battery to the trunk would give much more room. The mount could also include a mount for the AC comp.
Those heads have 69cc comb. chambers giving ~8.5cr., perfect for forced induction. Freshen up the heads and concentrate on the exhaust ports removing the egr bump. Use aftermarket shorty hedders and 2.5" exhaust. Add a LENTEC valve body and 3.55 gears.
3.08 gears will also work to help keeping the co$t$ down. Just add a posi with an F150 spring.
All of the above should come well within your projected budget.
This should be an interesting project. I look forward to updates.
If u do not make 2007 deadline, work towards 2008.Speed cost....how fast u wanna go??
It's not how much hp u have...
It's how much hp u can put to the track...
Let's seperate the men from the boys and put that power to the track using street tires and stock suspension components
'Tis infinately better to sit quietly and be thought a fool,
than to speak and remove all doubt.
