    Gradually Overheating?

The Town Car likes to gradually overheat while driving, even at low speeds. Driving, it'll slowly climb higher and higher on the gauge each time before it drops, then it holds pretty steadily at the top of the gauge without dropping. It's more pronounced when I put my foot into it.

It has coolant and it has a pretty new radiator. Opinions? Should I just go ahead and replace the thermostat and water pump?

I suggest checking your hoses too. I had a similar prollem in my old 5.0 Bronco, and it turned out to be a small leak in the upper heater cooling hose. When the water pump would speed up with the RPMs of the motor, it would actually suck in bubbles of air which sent my guage into an epileptic fit. If your hoses are sound, I think definetly a thermostat first, they are pretty cheap. That waterpump can be a bitch to change out.

what you describe is classic signs of a sticking T-tast, replace it.

check the fan clutch while you are in there.

I already have a t-stat, so I'll go ahead and swap that out. The fan clutch really seems to be in good shape... but the car is old and it has sat up a lot in the past couple years.

The old and new thermostats in my Malibu used to do that. It would go up to the temp of the t-stat and it would drop from 195* to 175*. The worse was in traffic; at a standstill that 305 would run higher and higher until I got moving again and then it would slowly return to normal temps. That was with a four core radiator too. I thought it was just the way the new t-stats were manufactured nowadays.

I'd also flush the radiator out, might be partially clogged. Wouldn't hurt especially since its gotta be drained to do the tstat.

It could also be your hoses, sometimes a old hose will collapse and block the flow. If you can pinch the big hose shut you need to replace them.

See if you can find one of those doohickey's that scott has to vacuum out all the air bubbles and pull in water until its completely full. I havent got the 408 to top 190 the whole time ive been driving it so far

T-stat sounds like its sticking too.

RIP Jason P Harril, we'll miss ya bro
