    best mufflers for the 302?

i am going to go with headers, and dual 2.5" pipes with the h-pipe, and 2 good cats since the emissions testing is so strict here in ontario. I'm looking for a good loud, deep tone, and really nice and loud when i step on it. Good flow comes in close second, behind sound of course. So now i have a single thrush stainless muffler which sounds ok but i'm wondering how magnaflow or some of the other styles work on these motors. Of course the headers and duals will louden things up quite a bit to.

    thanks

Dues anybody know of and or has personal experience with the Knock off flowmaster 1 chamber as seen on Ebay? There cheap and I need mufflers.

          These are what I have!

Probably the best you can get, other than Dynomax Bullets. But the popular choice for 302's are Flowmasters. For the budget minded individual, the best choice is the glasspack.

And I wouldn't go with one-chamber mufflers unless you have more of a race engine. The tone of a strict race muffler on a lo-po motor makes it sound like a pickup.

I love the sound of my Flowmaster 40's with cats. Its more rumbly, and less obnoxious. Of course, I will be doing headers, and custom front pipes with cats in the next few weeks, so that may change the sound.

I am convinced the glasspacks suck, unless you mount them near the front of the exhaust, and are not running cats. My brothers car had glasspacks, with gutted cats, and it sounded like garbage. Just a bunch of shitty resonance. However, my dad had a set mounted up front on his '62 Impala... mmm,mmm,mm... that is what every car should sound like. They were quiet at first, but once he broke them in, it was nothing short of wonderful.

Flowmaster 40 or 44 series both sound great on a 302. I have Summit Chambered mufflers on my car and they sound pretty good in my opinion. They're only $35 a piece too.

On a 4.6 the flowmasters sound like ass... Its would be better with a perforated straight through type muffler.......BUT flowmasters on a good ol push rod 302? They sound AWESOME!

I have been really happy with my setup which would be very similar to what you want to do.
but instead of 2 cats I have 2 glasspacks.

I got Hooker AeroChambers on mine. and shorty headers.

                    judge for yourself...

I picked up a set of glass packs that are baffeld. Buddy of mine put them on his 305 Cutlass and they sound awesome. I'll snap some pics of them tomorrow.

Mr. Land Yacht, that sounds sweet. I saw ur new duals a day or two ago, perdy. She certainly whips up to speed fast. nice car.

Right now this is my almost stock exhast, super restrictive manifolds, 1.75" pipe, 2 cats on each pipe, to a single exaust that has more turns and kinks than sad looin garden hose, stainless thrush muffler and 2.25" tailpipe with chrome tip. It actually sounds ok considering, haha. With headers and 2.5" pipe duals on the way, i don't know if i could go wrong, but flowmasters sound like the way to go form what i hear.

                        Thanks allot guys

                              +1 on what Scott said.

On GMGT, I am considering 3" thrush turbos, they have a good, not blatty sound.
