Conservative, yes. Stock, it is not.

Never heard my EFI lopo pop or backfire even once, at any throttle position, nor any EFI HO's engines I have ever seen. I think it is mainly due to the cam, and the reliably correct and consistent A/F Mixture that EFI always produces.

We have 2.5" Thrush turbos on my Dad's Buick ('68, with stock 350). It is very, very rumbly idle, and it sounds great when you lay into it. The only thing is, that right off idle, there is an unbelievable resonance that seemingly vibrates the whole car. It occurs for less than a second though. The other thing is, when you're driving along with the windows down, the exhaust pulses or something make your ears feel funny (like you can hear the distinct sound waves). It never did it before the exhaust, so I have to assume that is the culprit. They sound great they, and for the price, how can you miss?

I took off my rusting Magnaflow muffler today, so now my TBI 305 is completely straight piped, and i'm not gonna lie it's deafening loud when I get on it but sounds mean as hell, I like it

i went with cherrybombs on Ruby (3 or 4 months ago) and they are so big , they go right to the axle.
dont even have room toput turndowns on them.
didn't really give me the sound i thought they would either but my cats are all intact, so would probably be a lot better sounding if the cats were gutted.
and mine is pure stock so..

also the cherrybombs i put on were the old school type (long and straight, no offset) but they do make some that account for the offset and they are probably a lot better suited.( i just didnt take the time to hunt em down)
but for what its worth, those big ass red cherrybombs still look killer under Ruby.

            thanks, Bill

add an exhaust leak ahead of the cats, it'll pop then. Or, plumb in the air injection pump to run full time. It'll pop and bang to your heart's content. It'll also melt the converters for extra fun.

I had the air injection running right into the cats; there wasn't much more popping. My car kind of rumbles instead of popping. I like the popping though. I guess I should ventilate the new front pipes when I have them done...

I heard something good (I think on this site) awhile back about summit turbo mufflers (the fairly cheap ones). Is anybody running them, and are they any good?

I run them on my car. For 15 bucks they're fine. Not real loud, sort of generic sounding. I've had them under there like 2 years now, still holding up OK. I don't expect miracles from them but I was running low on cash when I did the exhaust so I cheaped on the mufflers. Their welded mufflers are nicer, and a bit louder.

Advance sells Thrush tubos for 20something that are very similar to the cheap Summit ones. By the time you pay handling charges the Thrush mufflers are a bit cheaper.

I got the expensive Summit welded muffs on the CV ($37.95 ea.). They have a little rumble to them, but they definitely won't wake the neighbors. If I had a built 5.0L, then I would consider getting some glasspacks to quiet it up a little bit.

On a related note, if I switched the cat'd H-pipe for an O/R H-pipe (no cats), would that be noticeably louder?

Perhaps an S&M pipe would be the way to go. I will settle for an O/R H-pipe when or if I build another engine for the CV.
