Spend $15 on an oil pressure gauge. If you have pressure, you should be able to drive for a good while.
Mine was only REALLY dropping pressure at idle. It held roughly 15psi while driving... still sucks, but at least things were getting oiled. I put 250ish miles after the oil pump died and it wasn't even knocking when I parked it and pulled the motor.

      Love my P72 but...

Pony love my 1991 P72 LTD 351 W that came w/ 2bbl Holley, I say buy one in a heart beat if the price is right AND it was a highway, supervisors, fire dept., small town, or "take home" car (wait for a good one, they're still out there at good prices), and then IMMEDIATELY go get the LOKAR aod tv cable. That 80 bucks will save you some beau-coup dollares cause if it goes the tranny follows shortly. Former Masshole myself, born and raised. Wicked Pissah.

You mean compression pressure, not ratio, right?

Restore IS good stuff. My merk lives off it

When the pushrods get up in mileage, they like to make noise when cold. It's no biggie though, my '88 Vic and my '90 GM both were noisy when cold, but never went bad.
As far as rough idle, I would suspect the IAC to be the likely culprit. It's a 5 minute job on a Box as compared to my current '92 with the 4.6, were it's a little trickier to get to.

alright, I'm gonna check on the IAC. I'll do a search for a how-to article on here? or someone can directly link me *hint *hint.
