I use 89 cuz its the same price as 87 which both have 10% ethanol.

i could always tell when the wife would put 87 or 89 in.

in my personal experience the 93 runs a lot crisper and actually gets a little better mileage and seems to keep the whole fuel system cleaner.

people may disagree but i've been a firm believer for years in that brand/octane.

thats because bp's 93 octane doesn't have ethanol..

I use 93, or else my vehicle pings ravenously... still a little pinging in the mid range throttle with the 93.

Usually Shell 87, but now that it's winter, BP 87 runs much better. Smoother, surer starts and better throttle response, although running BP stinks up the garage.

Very true, I knew a guy who pured wisky in the car (he was a stong drinker) when he was far from a station and had fuel light on, ran rough as expected but made it to the gas station.

87 works like a champ, sometimes I used 93 on my 1987 MGM when I put either Lucus or Seafoam in, but thats every 4-5 months on fillup.

I hate Clark, the water down their gas (Well the local ones do...) REALLY, I know what you thinking, how can it pass inspection, well it can't they pay off the government, my cars have actually ran worse with their gas than any other brand, its like using Quaker State and a Fram Filter....

Anyother brand of gas I don't care, some people sware by the BP with that Invigorate stuff, but I use whatevers not Clark, and whats cheapest/closest.

I buy 87 octane at BJ's in Linden and pretty much stick to that routine. Every oil change or when I feel like it I throw in a bottle of STP Fuel Injector Cleaner. Once I got gas for my Grand Am at this place, a Getty I think, only $5-10 worth and the car died and wouldn't run for two weeks. Next time I passed the station, the place was closed and the tanks were getting replaced so I avoid random gas ups and Exxon's which the Mercury never seemed to like.

I definitely remember that Sunoco had 86 octane - although, from what I was told, it was technically 86.9 or something, but not quite high enough to legally be called 87 octane... this may be hearsay, though.

That was during the times when they used to carry "Ultra 94" as well.

RON vs MON . . . if I remember, from a specific vehicle I was trying to figure out this info for - the sticker under the hood said it required 91 octane, which I thought was too high for something running only 8.5 to 1 compression, until I noted that it said 91 RON. Which, when I looked it up, is the same as 83 MON... ergo, it needed 87 octane RON+MON/2.... making WAY more sense for mid-1970s low compression motors.

Aside... I often wondered if the 7.6:1 compression Pontiac V8s of the mid-70s could run on horse-piss.

Anything on the parkway should be avoided as well. I would go through fuel filters like crazy after putting $10-$15 in the Malibu.

thats what happens with air cooled motors. my four wheeler is something like 6:1 compression and requires 93 octane.

i use 93 in the 85 just because i dont want to worry weather im running 87 or 93 when i spray the motor.
in the 97 i need to run 89 in the summer to keep the detonation away, in the winter i run 87 but i have been running 87 all year since money has been tight
