    yay... my AC works again

Installed a FRPP smog pump eliminator on my car, now the stock AC belt fits again.
by no means was this a bolt on a go item... had to cut off about 3/8"-1/4" of material to get the pulley alignment correct. also had to dig through a pile of parts to find the smog pump bracket and mounting bolts.

couple questions.. this looks very interesting.

    1. what is FRPP?

    2. did you use the factory smog pump bracket? I mean, if a fella wanted to do this swap, could he just keep the bracket and use it?

    3. where did you have to remove material?

FRPP= Ford Racing and Performance Parts... basically the new name for Ford motorsports.

Yes.. I used the factory bracket, no modifications to the bracket required.

I took material off the back of the mounting area on the idler its self... NOT the pulley, but the alluminum block the pulley mounts to.
Basically moved the whole thing back, so the pulley lined up with the rest.
the trick is not to take too much off at once and make it even so the pulley isnt at an angle.

Never claimed to be the first to do it. I am aware Mike has/had one installed on his car. I hear the pulley/bearing self destructed on his.

I didn't use the FRPP, I bought a used cheapo one, replaced the bearing and it still came apart. Currently no AC on my car.

well, crap .... drove the car on the hwy yesterday, made it 30 miles before it shredded the AC belt and wrapped it around the harmonic balancer. belt slapped the lower radiator hose a few times, just enough to weaken it so there is a nice bubble now.

Either the pulley alignment isnt right or there is a problem with the AC compressor.

I just used the shorter smog pump delete Belt, no problems at all for the 15K miles that I ran the car afterward. The A/C ran great, and the belt was still in great shape as well.

That's all well and good. YOU have a stock crank pulley!

For the few people with the underdrive pulley, that will not work due to the reduced diameter of the crank pulley. No matter how short the belt, when you put the tensioner on it the belt rubs itself.

Mine works OK *shrug*. No belt dust, no rubbing, no funky noises, etc.

BTW, the 89+ compressor is slightly different. Perhaps thats the secret behind the secret.

If you look at the last pic you posted, the pulley isn't in alignment.

camera angle accentuates that.... Mine looked dead on, but always threw the belt. Alignment is tough, that's for sure

does the smog pump even cause that much drag? even if it was all disconected id just leave it in place to act as the idler its self
