i am just wondering why the dodge 2500 ram 5.9 we had in our shop had one of these on and stock cats and sounded even nicer. did i do something wrong i can't even here that flowmaster sound that it suppose to give. The thursh emblem isfacing on the bottom so when you lift the car you see the thrush pecker. inlet is on right. It may be louder once you weld it all.

Every engine has a different sound. It also has to do with the bends in the pipe, the compression ratio of the motor, the shape of the exhaust ports in the head, and a bunch of other factors. Change the cam and the motor sounds different. Mine got louder when I installed ported heads.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

now i also heard you can make the muffler louder by drilling around 30 holes in the muffler straight and lined together. read this.

um, that would make the muffler completely useless. You'd be drilling holes through the muffler. May as well just go get a pair out of the junkyard with rot holes in them. Same effect for less money.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

this is silly.....good way to ruin a muffler and get exhaust fumes in your car

Flowmaster standard 40's are the best in my opinion. It seems as if they were made just for the 302. They complement each other so well. If its too loud or too high pitched for you, go woth the super 40's. Thats what I have. However, I have no cats. If you have cats, stick with the 40's. The super 40's are bigger and produce less of a high pitch, but more of a low pitch sound. I dont care for any other mufler.Vehicle: 1965 Pontiac Catalina (fastback 2+2)

40 series dont even seem to sound any different then thrush welded. I think your wasting your money if you go and put on a set of flowmaster mufflers .. if you want your car to be loud, take off the cats, run headers and run 2 inch piping. If you want your car to sound good, leave it.79 Grand Marquis

So which tail pipes did you end up purchasing? What pipe size are they as well and where did you get them from?
Are they 2.25?~David~

Seriously, though, some engines just amke different sound, for a variety of reasons.
My truck sounded absolutely evil, with nothing but a muffler change.**1976 Ford F-150 4WD: 360, 4 spd, 3.50s, factory A/C, 4" lift, Bilsteins, US Indy Mags, 35s Cruiser
