throttle body all full of carbon behind the throttle plate? Carb/throttle body cleaner to the rescue!

I'm also having that problem with my lincoln. it sounds almost like the transmission is not shifting into first gear fully at low speed. When the engine smooths out is usually after a small bump like a downshift. I might need to check to see that there's at least a little tension on the kickdown cable (yeah... this AOD has a kickdown instead of a TV cable).
